diagnostic purposes and for various treatments.

compound annual growth rate of 15.69%, it is expected that the industry will be worth

Robotics Careers in Medicine and Health
Healthcare is a major slice of the economy, and robotics will play an increasing role in
the coming decades. The trend of ageing populations and shortages of medical
professionals means that the need for care-taking robots grows every year. Additionally,
robotic techniques help create smarter and more useful prosthetics, aid in rehabilitation,
and enhance human motion. Surgeries assisted by robots can also be less invasive,
more successful, and require less recovery time.

How is robotics used / applied to this industry?
Robotics are increasingly being used in new ways within the medical and health fields,
from surgical robots and exoskeletons to rehabilitation robotics and ones used for
remote monitoring and diagnosis.
Michael University is proud to be an innovator in offering students an online two-year
program in a Master of Science (MS) in Robotic Medicine. A degree program that
teaches the underlying concepts of Medical Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI), and
how these technologies can be deployed into surgical environments and improve
healthcare.
Student Learning Outcomes:
1. Advanced knowledge and skills appropriate for robotics in medicine. Analyze
data and apply critical thinking skills to identify bio-medical problems, manage
risk, or propose data-driven recommendations or solutions.
2. Knowledge or application of ethical standards within robotics in medicine.
Demonstrate appropriate leadership skills while recognizing and assessing moral
and ethical components and complexity of challenges faced by the medical and
engineering community.
3. Professional communication proficiencies and disseminated information
appropriate for robotics in medicine. Display competence with oral, written, and
graphical communications, appropriate for professional clinical and engineering
environments.
4. Contributions, such as service, to the medical profession and/or community.

Curriculum Requirements:
Students of the Master of Science (MS) in Robotic Medicine Degree program must
complete 9 courses (4 credits each) for a minimum of 36 hours of graduate coursework.
In addition, students must complete a Master Thesis (4 credits) and a Master Thesis
Seminar (2 credits) for a total of 42 credit hours.
The academic year will be based on quarters. Fall (beginning in September), Winter
(beginning in January), and Spring (beginning in March). Each quarter is 10 weeks in
length. All courses will be taught online.
Students in the Masters of Science (MS) in Robotic Medicine program will benefit from
the teaching and research expertise of established scholars and practitioners.
Master Thesis:
Master Thesis: The ability to conduct independent work on a topic in Robotic
Medicine, deepening the above-mentioned skill, and to write a report that
describes the work in detail. The choice of project topic and exact form will be
mutually determined by you and your instructor. A written paper based on the
applied project is required and must contain project description, analysis, and
interpretation of findings.
Admission to Graduate Standing - Conditionally Classified
It may be possible for applicants who have minimal deficiencies in the
prerequisite requirements detailed above, but who are otherwise highly qualified,
to be admitted with conditionally classified graduate standing. Provisions must be
made for removal of deficiencies prior to the granting of classified standing. For
further information, consult the graduate program adviser.
Admission Requirements
Students must meet the Michael University’s requirements for admission to a Master
Degree program.
Bachelor’s degree in Health Science, Technology, Engineering, or related area.
A sample of scholarly writing, in English. This can be anything you have written
but should give an accurate indication of your writing abilities. The writing sample
can be a term paper, research report, journal article, published paper, college
paper, etc.
Submission of college transcripts of all course work.
Copies of certificates or licenses, if applicable.

Submission of three (3) letters of recommendation. Letters can be from the
following sources, attesting to the applicant's capacity and potential for Master
Degree study:
o The director or a faculty member from the most recent academic program
attended (if applicant has been a student in the last five years);
o A person who can attest to the applicant's professional work
No criminal record.
Students may provide documents in an e-Portfolio using Google Docs.
Tuition and Fees
The Tuition is $65,000 per year for this two-year program. The tuition and
fees are for the 2024-2025 academic year. Tuition and fees are subject to annual
revision, announced each Summer Term for the Fall Term. Further details about
