Overview
Cybersecurity experts are our first line of defense in outsmarting hackers, frustrating
cybercriminals, and keeping our sensitive data safe. Security deficiencies are costing
for-profit and nonprofit organizations billions of dollars in losses. Plus, with companies
shifting to remote work since the pandemic began, they have become more vulnerable
to attacks from hackers.
Not surprisingly, Cybersecurity experts are in high demand, according to the Bureau of
Labor Statistics. Employment for information security analysts is projected to grow 35%
from 2021 to 2031, much faster than the average for all occupations. On average, about
19,500 openings for information security analysts are projected each year with a median
annual salary of $102,600.

With cybercrime on the rise, there is a growing need for trained professionals with
Cybersecurity expertise.
Michael University’s Master of Science Degree in Cybersecurity prepares students to
become Cybersecurity practitioners, attain professional certifications and help global
private/public organizations manage Cybersecurity risk. This program will provide
students with the knowledge, business empathy, critical thinking, problem
analysis/solution generation, and documentation abilities needed in Cybersecurity.

At the completion of our program, students should be able to:
Describe the fundamental concepts of the Cybersecurity discipline;
Describe potential system attacks and the actors that might perform them;
Describe cyber defense tools, methods and components and apply cyber
defense methods to prepare a system to repel attacks;
Describe appropriate measures to be taken should a system compromise occur;
Define the principles of cybersecurity and describe why each principle is
important to security and how it enables the development of security
mechanisms that can implement desired security policies;
Analyze common security failures and identify specific design principles that
have been violated;
Understand the interaction between security and system usability and the
importance for minimizing the effects of security mechanisms;
Describe the basic security implications of modern computing environments;
Prepare for industry-recognized Cybersecurity certifications

Curriculum Requirements:
Students of the Master of Science in Cybersecurity Degree Program must complete
thirty credit hours of intense study which includes completing a Masters’ Thesis (topic of
their choice) to meet satisfactory requirements.
The degree program will be offered each academic year based on quarters. Fall
(beginning in September), Winter (beginning in January), Spring (beginning in
March), and Summer (beginning in June). All courses can be taught in-person
and online.
Students in the Master of Science in Cybersecurity Degree Program will benefit
from the teaching and research expertise of established scholars and
practitioners.
The university’s cybersecurity master’s degree program(s) are established with a
mix of both business management and applied practical technology studies. This
is based on the industry’s need to have a balance of applied skills and disciplines
in both technical domains of research and practical business knowledge in the
workplace.
Masters’ Thesis:
Written Paper: The culminating project will be writing a masters’ thesis paper on a
topic in Cybersecurity. The goal of a written paper is to bring together different views,
evidence, and facts about a topic from books, articles, and interviews, then interpret
the information into your writing. The choice of project topic and exact form will be
mutually determined by you and your academic advisor. The written paper will follow
the American Psychological Association (APA) Style Format. Your instructor will
provide guidelines, resources, and assessment rubric in the course syllabus.

Have thesis proposal approved by M.S. Supervisory Committee and
academic advisor
Masters’ Thesis will be 6 credit hours
Successfully defend the thesis
Formally submit the masters’ thesis to the university
Students who intend to write an M.S. thesis should develop a thesis proposal in
conjunction with their academic advisor that outlines the topics, scope, and objectives of
the proposed thesis. The thesis topic will normally be in a common interest area to both
the student and the academic advisor. The thesis proposal should be discussed with
and approved by the student’s M.S. Supervisory Committee before the student begins
the research and writing of the thesis. A signed copy of the proposal must be placed in
the student’s permanent file prior to registering for Master’s Thesis. The student may
apply up to a maximum of 6 hours of Master’s Thesis toward the master’s degree.
Upon the admission into the program, each student is assigned a faculty member as the
student’s academic advisor who will guide the student through the program. The student
must (at least electronically) contact with the advisor each semester to discuss the
progress towards the completion of the degree program.
Admission Requirements
Students must meet Michael University’s requirements for admission to the Master of
Science in Cybersecurity Degree Program. The Master of Science in Cybersecurity
admission requires the rough equivalent of a Bachelor’s undergraduate degree majoring
in computer science or related majors is required.
Bachelors’ Degree from an accredited college or university or have proof of
equivalent training at a foreign institution.
Work related experience.
A sample of scholarly writing, in English. This can be anything you have written
but should give an accurate indication of your writing abilities. The writing sample
can be a term paper, research report, journal article, published paper, critique,
college paper, etc.
Submission of college transcripts of all course work, if applicable.
Copies of certificates or licenses, if applicable.

o A person who can attest to the applicant's professional work
Personal/Goal Statement. A personal/goal statement is a 1–2-page essay
describing your current employment and your professional intentions.
No criminal record.
Students may provide documents in an e-Portfolio using Google Docs.
Tuition and Fees
The tuition and fees are for the 2024-2025 academic year. Tuition and fees are
subject to annual revision, announced each Summer Term for the Fall Term.
