Seeing Things a Bit More Clearly...

A lot of folks are wondering: What will the new administration do with health insurance, and how will the market respond?

Here’s what I’ve been hearing from the inside:
Plans for 2025 are likely to look a lot like what we have in 2024. But beyond that — think 2026 — we may start seeing benefits and pricing return to something more like we had in 2022 and 2023. In short: hang in there. If all goes well, the current high-cost environment may start easing up within the next year.

In the meantime, here are some things that can help right now:

For Medicare Plans

Extra Help – If your income is under $23,475 (single) or $31,725 (married), you may qualify for help with drug costs.
1 Call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 to apply.

Medicaid – If you recently lost coverage, call your social worker ASAP.
Reminder: You must complete your yearly recertification to stay enrolled. Need help? Call us.

Drug Costs – Medicare drug plans have a $2,000 out-of-pocket maximum in 2025. If you've spent that much already, you shouldn’t owe anything more for your medications this year.

For Everyone Else

Cancer, Heart Attack, and Stroke Coverage – These policies are affordable and can pay you a $5,000+ check if you’re diagnosed.
1. Must medically qualify. The earlier you apply, the lower the premium. Contact us for a quote.

Hospital Indemnity Plans – These low-cost plans can help cover or even pay for surgeries and hospital stays.
1. Ask us for a quote — you might be surprised how affordable this protection is.

Pharmaceutical Assistance – If your medication is expensive, try this:
1. Google: “[Your Medication Name] pharmaceutical assistance
2. Contact the manufacturer — many offer programs that reduce your copay if you qualify.

Charity Care (Hospital Bill Help) – Most hospitals offer programs that can wipe out medical debt or cover future bills.
📞 Carilion Financial Assistance: 1-866-720-3742

Ralphie's Corner

#1 This is the first installment of Ralphie's Corner. Where Ralphie gets to teach about insurance and we get to learn exciting words!!!

What is a deductible???

A health insurance deductible is the amount you have to pay out of your own pocket for medical services before your insurance starts to pay.

Here’s a simple breakdown:

  • If your deductible is $1,500, you must pay the first $1,500 of covered medical costs yourself.

  • After that, your insurance begins to share the cost — usually through coinsurance (like 80/20 splits) — until you hit your out-of-pocket maximum.

Important Notes:

  • Preventive care (like annual checkups or vaccines) is often covered 100%, even before you meet your deductible.

  • Some plans have separate deductibles for medical services and prescriptions.

  • High-deductible plans usually come with lower monthly premiums, but higher upfront costs when you get care.

Thanks Ralphie, that was a lot!!
