Fuel for cars, direct from the air

71.7% of CO2 emissions in the EU come from petrol (gas) cars, trucks and motorcycles, and in the UK, 97% of licenced cars on the road are run on fossil fuels (58% petrol, 38% diesel). But it's no longer a secret that manufacturing electric vehicles is costly for the environment. (Here's a detailed comparison.)

"An electric car has about half the climate impact of a petrol or diesel car. But going electric is just the start - we need to think bigger." - Greenpeace UK

Can't we just run cars on thin air? Well, actually…

Ambitious New York-based startup Aircela has revealed their first machine can produce fuel from carbon in the atmosphere. Fuel for your car made with zero fossil fuels, zero modifications to vehicles and zero new infrastructure.

Their direct air capture (DAC*) unit just requires air, water and renewable electricity to turn carbon dioxide from the air into clean (sulfur-free, ethanol-free) gasoline - ready to pour directly into the tank of standard gas/petrol cars, no modifications needed.

Aircela's rooftop demonstration of their working machine produced usable, engine-ready gasoline on-site and in real time. The 3-unit, fridge-sized machine handles all the stages of air capture and fuel synthesis, with a standard nozzle at the back to fill a standard tank.

"We didn't build a prototype. We built a working machine. We want people to walk away knowing this isn't too good to be true - it actually works," said Eric Dahlgren, co-founder and CEO of Aircela Inc.

The machine is designed to capture 10 kilograms of carbon dioxide each day to produce 1 gallon of gasoline, storing up to 17 gallons. These units can be installed outside homes and used to refuel vehicles each day. Drivers would reduce their environmental impact without any change to daily habits.

"We have a century worth of experience and money invested into moving us around, heating, cooling and that is based in large part on fuel, so I think it's a faster pathway to clean up that fuel rather than ripping up the entire infrastructure."

Aircela plans to mass-produce machines suitable for every environment and for residential, commercial and industrial customers within 18 months, with a focus on affordability. Hundreds of machines placed in the open, like a solar farm, could generate thousands of gallons of fuel every day, commercially.

“We truly believe that our approach is the fastest way to bring carbon neutral fuels to as many people as possible, to as many places as possible, as soon as possible,” Dahlgren said in a statement.

Could it power a Porsche?

Karl Dums - former Senior Project Lead at Porsche - didn't believe this was going to work: "Fortunately, I was wrong. Aircela has earned my full respect, and I'm thrilled to celebrate this historic moment. I'm convinced this marks the beginning of a long and important journey - one whose impact is still vastly underestimated today."

*Direct air capture (DAC) pulls CO2 directly from the atmosphere and more than a dozen DAC facilities in Europe capture and store harmful greenhouse gas - often used in fossil fuel power plants.

"Corgi Hawk" gets around by skateboard.

"Corgi Hawk" - Gabrielaaronnn

"This dog has more potential than I" - Mrmursalin_

This Corgi cruising on a Supreme skateboard like he is training for the next X Games... "if Tony Hawk ever needs a partner we know a dog who is ready to roll," highlights Dog Time: dog's skateboard skills leave onlookers shocked and rightfully so.

Grabbed off of Chinese social media and posted on Reddit, the real trooper and excellent skateboarder is "obnoxiously adorable", says Motherofbodie.

"He’s like SuperCorgi and he knows it." - TheDudeWhoCanDolt

"Low centre of gravity really helps in activities like this." - Jazztify

Below is the video that started it all - the dog’s owner places a red Supreme skateboard in front of him, and without missing a beat, the Corgi jumps on and starts rolling like a seasoned skater. The Corgi skates effortlessly down a set of stairs, balancing like a total pro. As he reaches the bottom, a crowd of bystanders cheer and film him and even pet him on the head.

EU power beams up with the sun

Solar power generated more electricity than any other power source for the first time in June 2025.

Solar power generated 22.1% of EU total electricity (45.4 TWh) and at least 13 EU member states hit monthly solar power records, including the Netherlands (over 40%) and Greece (over 35%).

In comparison, coal generated just 6.1% (12.6 TWh) of EU electricity in June 2025, down from 8.8% in June 2024. Ireland closed the last coal plant, and 10 EU countries generated zero power from coal.

The cost of solar power decreased by 82% across 2010-2020, making it the most competitive cost-effective source of electricity across the EU.

Europe could have more than 1 million solar workers by 2027, as the workforce grew from 648,100 workers in 2022 to 826,000 workers in 2023.

CEO & Founder Plan A and co-founder of Greentech Alliance Lubomila Jordanova shared these business opportunities:

  • Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs): Lock in predictable energy costs while supporting renewable development

  • Supply chain analysis: Evaluate energy-intensive suppliers and consider renewable requirements.

  • Investment portfolio: Cleantech manufacturing reached a record US$71 billion in 2024.

  • Market positioning: Align with companies and financial institutions increasingly prioritizing renewable energy projects to align with their ESG goals.

  • Geographic advantage: Southern Europe excels in solar power, while northern and Atlantic coastal areas excel in wind energy—optimize operations accordingly.

  • Workforce development: Prepare for the skills transition in the growing renewable sector

Harshit Bansal, former energy and environment lawyer, said "this is so heart warming, makes me so hopeful!"

Spain powered 100% of national grid with renewable energy for the first time.

First weekday of 100% renewable power on Spain's national grid.

Spain’s grid operator, Red Eléctrica, announced that renewable energy sources met the entire electricity demand of the country’s peninsular system for the first time on April 16, 2025. Notably, on a Wednesday, covering the industrial working day.

11:15am: Wind power led the mix with over 45% of total output, solar power generated over 27%, hydroelectric sources provided over 23%. An extra 4% was generated from solar thermal and other renewable sources.

"This milestone demonstrates the strength and reliability of Spain’s renewable energy infrastructure in meeting national electricity needs," said Red Eléctrica

1:35pm, April 21, 2025: solar power set a new record for instant power generation and accounted for 78.6% of Spain's electricity demand. Solar capacity is the country's fastest-growing energy source.

The back-to-back milestones confirm Spain’s rising leadership in renewable energy and signal a strong future for sustainable electricity and reducing reliance on non-renewable energy.

Take back your own spiritual power.

Ever felt you've given your power away? This is for you.

When burnout dims your light... the ultimate truth is that, somewhere along the way, you've given some of your power away. Even when you're switched onto your purpose, you're exhausted because part of you is still defending and protecting your power.

You can't connect clearly and deeply with your purpose, and serve your purpose fully, without owning all of who you are.

The biggest problem with not fully owning your power is the lack of trust. You don't trust others, you don't fully trust yourself, and you're exhausted.

So how the hell do you get your power back? Through self-mastery. Rebuild trust in yourself and recover the lost parts of yourself. No more indecision or confusion. No more burnout and exhaustion.

This is the spiritual path that Jen Thomas has walked for a decade. Jen is an intuitive coach, energy healer and Priestess and she leads women to break free from overwhelm, heal their relationship with themselves and create powerfully authentic lives.

She is here to help you blaze a new trail. One that serves. One that places high value on emotions, integrity and compassion. One that serves wildlife and our beautiful, earthly home.

"The forces in play on climate change essentially revolve around the generation of power, the transportation of goods and services and people, and the materials that we use to fuel the whole of our civilisation."
