We can not believe April is finished! It was a great month that started with spring break and ended with a beautiful walk on the ECO Greenway trails with TRED for their "Walk & Talk" series. We talked about our motto "strong people are harder to kill" and the importance of maintaining strength as we age. Our challenge to the group was to find a standard chair and stand up and sit down as many times as you can in 30 seconds. The goal is about 12. For more info on the sit-to-stand test click here. We also discussed the term "sarcopenia," age-related loss of muscle, and how strength training is vital to reduce the effects of that on your body. Lastly, we talked about longevity and recommended everyone tune into the Peter Attia podcast "The Drive" to learn more.

We continued with our monthly "Aging Well Workshop" in April and met a few friends of current clients. This workshop is a great way to break the ice and get someone you know in to talk with us here at Shift. We'd love to help your friends and family and encourage you to share the "Aging Well Workshop" information with them. As of 4/30/23 we have helped 116 people in the Rome Community! We are on a mission to help 500 people in our community get moving and stay moving. We could not do it without the support you all provide for us.

We hosted our back pain workshop at CrossFit Rome and focused on the principle of core bracing. Keep scrolling to see some videos of the exercises we learned. In May, we are bringing back our Shift Gears Bike Group, and Deron is headed to Chicago to become a certified professional bike fitter through ICE Physio.

We are LOVING the book Built to Move!

  • So far we have challenged the Masters Class at CrossFit Rome to improve their "sit-and-rise" ability, see the video here.
  • Another section of the book focuses on the importance of daily activity and they don't mean a daily workout. They are talking about the hours we aren't working out. Are you sedentary and don't realize it? Most everyone has an apple watch, fit bit or activity tracker of some kind that can keep up with your steps per day.
