Star Point opens in East Asheville

Mountain Housing Opportunities has opened Star Point, a 60-unit affordable apartment community off Tunnel Road. The development offers efficiency, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments for renters earning up to 60% of the area median income. Twelve apartments are reserved for young adults aging out of foster care.

$9.5 million moves 126 apartments forward

Asheville City Council has approved up to $9.5 million in federal disaster recovery funding for Terrace at River Hills, a proposed 126-unit affordable rental community near South Tunnel Road. The development would serve households earning between 20% and 80% of the area median income.

An 18-month planning process is underway for nearly 60 acres in West Asheville’s Deaverview neighborhood. The new master plan will explore replacing the existing 160-unit Deaverview Apartments and adding mixed-income housing, parks, and community services.

New planning process begins for Deaverview

Asheville City Council has approved a nearly $400,000 contract to create a new master plan for almost 60 acres in West Asheville’s Deaverview neighborhood. The 18-month planning process will explore mixed-income housing, replacement of the existing 160-unit Deaverview Apartments, parks, educational facilities, and other community services.

Asheville makes room for more housing

New zoning rules approved by Asheville City Council allow duplexes as a primary use throughout the city’s residential districts and in certain mixed-use areas. The changes also increase the permitted size of accessory dwelling units, or ADUs, and make it possible to build a duplex and an ADU on the same property.
