Serving Through Governance: Why Politics is a Mission Field for Believers

In a world where political engagement often feels contentious and disheartening, Christians are called to approach governance not as a worldly struggle, but as a mission field. Politics as Missionary Field challenges the idea that faith and politics should remain separate, arguing instead that leadership and policymaking are vital expressions of Christian stewardship.

Just as missionaries bring the Gospel to distant lands, believers are called to bring wisdom, justice, and moral clarity to the public square. Political involvement can be as seen an act of service—one that reflects Christ’s call to seek the welfare of the city and to lead with integrity. By embracing politics as a vocation, Christians can shape society in ways that honor God and uplift communities.

Inspired Life has been active in all levels of government, inspiring and lifting those up who are called to serve. Being called to serve is an incredible honor and responsibility, and Christians should be encouraged.

The article, Politics as Missionary Field, argues that Christians should not abandon political engagement but instead view it as a vital vocation, emphasizing that leadership in governance is as important as leadership in faith communities. It critiques the polarized nature of modern politics and warns that neglecting political involvement can have serious consequences for society.

Inspired Life's mission in political engagement

Political engagement isn’t just appropriate for people of faith, it’s necessary. Education policy shapes what kids learn, who influences them, and how much say parents actually have. Sitting on the sidelines just isn’t an option. Our mission is to put parents back in charge of their children’s education. That includes pushing for curriculum transparency, defending family values, and making sure school choice is a real, accessible option for every family. Parents know their kids best, and they deserve the freedom to choose the learning environment that fits their values and their child’s needs.

In 2025, Inspired Life led the charge in advocating many polices supporting parents. This included House File 189 bill which was legislation that ensures students enrolled in nonpublic schools have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular interscholastic athletics offered by public schools.

Thanks to persistent outreach, testimony, and grassroots support, we helped push this bill across the finish line. HF 189 is a powerful win for families who’ve made the decision to educate their children outside the public system.

The Inspired Life team advocates with a sense of calling, not partisanship. It’s about showing up, speaking up, and staying engaged in the process so the next generation can grow up in a system that respects the family and protects the freedom to raise children according to what matters most.

If you're stepping into a public role, you might find inspiration in biblical teachings on leadership, such as Micah 6:8—"Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God."

Serving in the Iowa House.

A message from Representative Samantha Fett.

My first term in the Iowa House has been a rewarding and challenging experience. Serving as a public servant while embracing Christian values is a calling that carries deep meaning. It means leading with integrity, humility, and compassion—qualities that align with faith-based principles of justice and service. What I have learned is that change takes time, and focus should remain our steadfast commitment to the people of Iowa.

Representative Samantha Fett, and Inspired Life's Marketing Director.

As the session progressed, I continued to hear this phrase, "What about the separation of church and state?" At the time, I was advocating and moving legislation that would authorize school districts to hire chaplains in schools, offer an elective course in biblical literacy as part of literature class and define release time for religious instruction during school hours, plus speaking publicly about school choice policies that would give parents freedom to enroll in religious education. This question was brought up as a counter to why we can't move these polices forward.

I addressed this push back in an article to discuss the real history on the separation of church and state. Many believe it's in the US Constitution, and, therefore, cannot be any faith in our state Capitol. This is not true!
