To all our dog loving friends:

Welcome to our most recent edition of The Dogs’ Spot's - Spotlight! Here’s a quick look at what’s happening at The Dogs’ Spot this month, fun things to do around Kansas City, and a little training inspiration to top it all off. We hope you and your dogs have a hauntingly happy Halloween!

🎃 Halloween: Make It Fun, Not Frightening

Halloween can be a lot of fun for people—but for some dogs, it can be a very strange and scary night.

Costumes. Doorbells. Strangers. People appearing at the door and then mysteriously disappearing.

For dogs who aren't comfortable with all that activity, Halloween can be overwhelming.

A few things you can do now:

Practice the door routine.
Have a family member knock or ring the doorbell and give your dog a treat to create a positive association with these sounds.

Give your dog a safe place.
Set up a comfortable safe area away from the front door where your dog can relax.

Make sure your dog is wearing ID and is microchipped.
Just in case your dog gets out of the house and spooked, it will help him find his way back to home.

Don't force costumes.
If your dog isn't comfortable wearing one, skip it! A festive bandana can be just as cute.

Watch the candy.
Keep Halloween candy safely out of reach.

Most importantly, remember that your dog doesn't have to participate in every part of Halloween to have a great night.
