The Tricks, the Treats, and the Trick or Treaters

Halloween is fast approaching! This is a holiday enjoyed by the young and the young at heart. It’s heralded with lawn decorations, costumes, parties, spooky sounds, smells, and lighting. All of this culminates with children dressing up and running throughout the neighborhood after dark ringing doorbells. When the doors are answered you can hear loud exclamations of “Trick or Treat”!

The Dogs' Spot is excited to host the second annual Santa Paws Makers Mart on Saturday, November 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This is the dog lovers holiday mart! It is the perfect destination to get special one-of-a-kind gifts for your dog loving family and friends and of course your best friend. You'll find photo ops with Santa, artists, leash makers, bakers, and more! Put it on your calendar now and invite all your friends!

Congratulations to our own Dog Spotters Jessica and Willow, Marsha and Zou Zou, and Grace and Storm! All three agility teams were invited to the 2023 N.A.D.A.C. National Agility Championships being held in Springfield, OH, October 5 - 8. We wish you all the best of luck!

Congratulations to Carol and her English Cream Golden Retriever, Sofie! They are recent graduates of our Caring Canines Therapy Dog class and passed their Pet Partner’s Therapy Dog evaluation. Carol and Sofie are now an official Therapy Dog Team.

Congratulations to Elizabeth and her Swedish-Danish Farmdog, Ollie, and her Russel Terrier, Stella! They were all invited to the Fast Cat Nationals held in Florida this coming December.

Trainer Spotlight: Natalie Perryman

Natalie has 16 years of experience in the pet industry, 12 of them as a professional dog trainer. She is an Animal Behavior College Certified Dog Trainer, an American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, and a graduate of the Karen Pryor Dog Training Foundations and Puppy Start Right courses, among others. Natalie has a degree in Anthropology which included a semester-long ethnology of a local dog training class.

The experience she had working with Teddy, her family’s last Newfoundland,

is why she is a dog trainer. Tavie, a rescue she adopted at 2 ½ years old, is the reason she is committed to positive reinforcement training and focusing on the dog’s feelings. Natalie currently shares her life with three black mutts: Ares, Grinner, and Sehetep. She and her boys enjoy road trips, hiking, and sniffing, along with the occasional seminar. They have tried their paw at agility, rally, lure coursing, drafting, water work, nose work, and other sports, along with Canine Life and Social Skills, Tricks, and Canine Good Citizen titles.

October Dog of the Month

Meet Mako

Meet Mako, a playful gal who will swim straight into your heart!

She may be named after one of nature’s most aggressive sharks, but don’t let her name fool you. Mako is one sweetheart of a gal who loves treats and being around people.

Mako is a six-month-old, black-and-white pit mix. According to her foster parent, Gray, she is “an absolute goofball,” a total high-energy pup who loves tug-of-war and squeaky toys. Mako’s wish list for a fur-ever family includes a home with a big, fenced yard for running and plenty of peeps to hang with.

An NKC native, Mako was found strolling the grounds at CityView Apartments. While we are still learning her likes and dislikes, we know she is food-motivated (aren’t we all, girl), which helps teach her not to jump, chew, bite, etc.

Speaking of treats, Mako is one smart cookie. She has mastered “sit” and “down” and is honing her door and leash manners. She’s good with other dogs but can play a bit rough.

Mako is not microchipped, but she is spayed and updated on vaccinations. Her adoption fee is $105. Want a meet-and-greet with Mako? Her calendar is open!
