Rooted Field Notes

Notes from the journey with God

What's up fam,

The question I get more than any other is some version of this: how do I know it was God and not just me?

I used to think the goal was certainty. That mature people heard clearly every time and the rest of us were guessing. What I've found is that God is not nearly as worried about your accuracy as He is about your nearness. Sheep don't learn the shepherd's voice by studying it. They learn it by being around Him long enough that it starts to sound familiar.

So if you're in a season of second-guessing everything you hear, you are not behind. You're in the part where the familiarity gets built.

A crafted prayer

Jesus, teach me Your voice. Not so I can be right, but so I can know You. Quiet what's loud in me and make Your words familiar. I'd rather be close to You than certain about You.

This week on the podcast

Was That God or Me?!

I go deeper on this whole thing in the episode. How to tell the difference, what to do when you get it wrong, and why getting it wrong isn't the disaster you think it is.

Rooted University

Live teaching from me, a growing library, and a community of young people who are hungry for Jesus. Learning to hear His voice is where we start.

Take a look

We are the wild ones, sons and daughters of God. Let's go deeper than we've ever gone, and maybe we'll set the world on fire with His love.

See you out there,

Ashley
