Spinning Teacups, Things Will Never Calm Down & Crochet Patterns

December 4, 2025

Black-and-white portrait of Monique, standing confidently in front of a large window with a city skyline blurred in the background. She has long dark hair, wears a floral top, and has a thoughtful, slightly playful expression, with one hand on her hip.

It’s hard to believe 2025 is wrapping up. This year was one long spin on the teacups: fast, slow, chaotic, and mildly nauseating. There were new technologies, shifting workplaces, and more than a few national headlines that made us question basic logic. Some of us shouted into the void, some of us poured another glass, and all of us wondered, “Is this really where we are?”

And yet, here we are. Still standing, still building, still showing up for the people and work that matter. The truth is, the world won’t slow down just because we’re tired of the noise. Change is relentless. But it’s also an invitation.

You can’t control the speed of change, but you can control how prepared you are for it. 2026 is coming whether we like it or not, and I’ll be there, calm on the surface, plotting world domination underneath.

Won’t you join me? 😉

Lessons for Leaders Hiring Their First Assistant

Hiring your first EA isn’t about just adding another pair of hands. It’s about expanding your capacity, redefining what your time is worth, and learning how to delegate to someone who gets giddy over making spreadsheets.

Having coached and recruited dozens of executive–assistant teams, I can tell you the first-time experience can be magical or miserable, and most of that depends on how you approach it.

So, if you’re a Freshman Executive (or if you know someone who is) here are a few things you should know before you start the search.

Truth Bomb: Things Will Never "Calm Down"

This week, an executive told me they’ll hire an assistant “once things calm down.” I hear that a lot. Here’s the truth: things never calm down, and that’s exactly why you need help.

You don’t hire an Assistant because you’ve got it all figured out. You hire one because you don’t. The chaos isn’t a reason to wait; it’s the signal that it’s time.

Ovcio Featherlight Scarves

One of the best gifts I’ve ever received (thank you Aunt Carole), and now my go-to for the people I adore. These scarves are unbelievably soft, luxurious, and come in colors that actually make winter feel fun. Not cheap, but totally worth it.

Bag Balm

My wintertime hand savior. I’ve tried every “miracle” cream out there, and nothing beats this old-school tin of magic. Cracked hands, dry cuticles, Colorado air—it handles it all.

Ravelry

If you’ve got a creative streak, skip the mall and make something instead. Ravelry is a giant online community for knitters and crocheters, packed with patterns, inspiration, and all the cozy motivation you need.

Title: Executive Assistant
Location: Crown Point, IN | Hybrid
Salary: $70-75k

About the Role:
This is a role for an experienced EA ready to step into something bigger. You’ll be the right hand to a driven, values-led agency owner, Trish Geyer, overseeing a rapidly scaling Allstate Insurance business with multiple office locations and a bold vision for growth. Your responsibilities will stretch across day-to-day execution and strategic support—shaping the structure behind the scenes while empowering her to stay focused on the big picture.

This is not a reactive, wait-for-instructions position. It’s a proactive, forward-leaning partnership. You’ll be expected to identify what’s missing, make recommendations, and move processes and initiatives forward in an environment that is still building its internal systems.

And while Trish has built a thriving agency, this will be her first time working with an Executive Assistant. That’s an opportunity—and a responsibility. You’ll need to guide the relationship from day one: demonstrating what great support looks like, coaching her on what to hand off (and how), and helping her unlock new levels of focus, follow-through, and leadership capacity.
