Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about our relationship with time—specifically, how twisted it’s gotten. We treat time like it’s a problem to solve, a villain to outmaneuver, or something we’re constantly running out of. (Spoiler: it’s not.) The root of the issue isn’t time itself... It’s how we’re using it.
We tap that black screen “just to check the time”… and then eight texts, four emails, two scrolls through Instagram, and a quick TikTok later, we’re stressed because we “lost time.” But time isn’t Freddy Krueger (for those too young to get that reference: he’s a literal nightmare). It’s not out to get you. You didn’t lose time—you just didn’t use it properly.
And yet, despite this constant obsession with managing every second, people are still late. Still “losing track of time.” Still unclear. Still winging it like they’ve got time to burn.
So here’s your PSA: You have the same 24 hours as the rest of us, no matter what title your business card says. No more, no less. And everyone’s time is valuable.
So if you’re that person who chronically shows up late, skips meetings, gives half-baked directions, or treats other people’s schedules like a suggestion? Please stop. My time is just as valuable as yours.
