Performance reviews don't have to be scary—they can actually be an incredible tool for growth. Here's how...

The Partnership Playbook Heading

Performance Reviews, Job Search Revolution, and Network Like You Mean It

June 5, 2025

I used to be really bad at performance reviews. Like, really bad. I didn’t know what to say or what the point of it all really was. And when I was on the receiving end of feedback? My first instinct was to explain why it wasn’t my fault—or I’d take it soooo personally.

No one teaches us how to do this. We’re expected to just know how to have hard conversations, give useful feedback, and somehow stay calm and clear through it all. But I learned—through trial, error, and some very patient mentors—that this is a skill. And if you want to evolve and lead, then you have to learn it.

I hope this summer season brings you feedback that’s clear, honest, and actually helpful. Both for the giver and the receiver. Not because it’s always easy—but because when it’s done right, it changes everything.

Job Search Revolution—Quality Over Quantity

Tired of getting lost in the pile? Stop mass-applying and start being intentional.

Choose 5–10 companies that actually excite you and tailor your applications like you’re having a one-on-one conversation—not yelling into the void. Customize your resume and LinkedIn to reflect your story, not just your skills. Hiring managers can spot a copy-paste job a mile away.

This isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing it better. Your job search should feel like a campaign, not a cattle call.

The Misunderstood Performance Review: How Executives and Assistants Can Optimize Their Review

Performance reviews have a reputation problem. To some, they feel like a bureaucratic time-suck.

To others, they’re a judgment day no one asked for.

And yet—when done right—they can be one of the most powerful tools for growth, alignment, and motivation on your team.

Read the blog to learn how.

Network Like You Mean It

The oldest trick in the book still works—tell people you’re job hunting.

Activate your network, be specific about what you’re looking for, and offer value where you can. Yes, even if you feel weird about it. You’d do it for someone else, so let them return the favor. Just make it easy for them to help you.

LinkedIn is the easiest place to start!

Sun's Out, SPF On

Friendly reminder that summer is not messing around. You’re already carrying everyone’s emotional baggage at work—you don’t need a sunburn too.

Trader Joe's has some great options, from sprays and creams to mineral-based sunscreen.

Reapply, hydrate, repeat.

Inbox Zero… But Make It Existential

I’ve never understood the obsession with Inbox Zero. Is it possible? Sure. But… why? If an empty inbox brings you peace, go for it. But if you’re chasing it like a productivity trophy, maybe ask what you’re really trying to control.

A while back I had the honor of speaking with the incredible Diana Brandl on her podcast, Executive Office Insights, and was stoked to hear this episode was recently featured in her "Best of" series!

In the episode, we talked everything from the pros and cons of vision boards to how I pivoted from "Chief of Simon" to Assistant Recruiter and how to stand out from the crowd in the expanding Assistant space.

And FYI: I hear Diana recently interviewed the former Chief of Staff to Serena Williams. The episode drops next month and that's definitely one you won't want to miss—be sure to hit that follow button!
