Featured Ride: Twisted Sisters & Lone Star LoopAustin to LeakeyIf you haven't done the Twisted Sisters loop out of Austin, stop what you're doing and plan this ride. If you have, you already know why it's on the list. Head west out of Austin on US-290 through Dripping Springs and Johnson City, then pick up Ranch Road 335 near Leakey. This is where the ride begins in earnest. Ranch Roads 335, 336, and 337 — known collectively as the Twisted Sisters are three of the most technical and scenic motorcycle roads in the state of Texas. Tight curves, steep elevation changes through the Edwards Plateau, cedar and live oak hillsides, and views that open up across the Hill Country in every direction. The roads are narrow, the pavement is generally well-maintained, and the traffic is minimal on a weekday morning. Loop through Vanderpool and Medina on the return leg and stop in Kerrville or Comfort for lunch before heading back east on I-10 and US-290. The full round trip from Austin runs 280–320 miles depending on your routing and is one of those rides that earns its reputation every single time. Pro Tip: Leave Austin no later than 6am to hit Leakey by 8am and run the Sisters before the summer heat peaks and before weekend canyon traffic builds. The curves on 335 in the early morning, with the Hill Country mist still sitting in the valleys, are the real reason people make this ride. |

June Motorcycle Events: Austin & Central TexasLaconia Motorcycle Week — Plan Ahead for New England's Biggest Rally 📍 Laconia, NH - Lakes Region 📅 June 13–21, 2026 Worth a mention for any Austin rider who's ever thought about making a bucket list road trip. Laconia Motorcycle Week is referred to as the oldest bike rally in the U.S., bringing riders together for over a century with breathtaking rides through New England's scenic landscapes, live music, vendors, and plenty of ways to spend time off the bikes. If you've never done a northeast summer rally, a June trip to New Hampshire is worth planning for 2027. Ride Your Motorcycle to Work Day — 35th Annual 📍 Nationwide including Austin, TX 📅 Tuesday, June 9, 2026 In 2026, Ride Your Motorcycle to Work Day celebrates its 35th anniversary held annually on the second Tuesday in June, with the goal of advocating for the use of motorcycles worldwide. A great excuse to put the car keys down for a day and remind Austin's notoriously congested morning commute what two wheels can do. Wear your gear, ride to the office, and make the case for motorcycles as a real commuting option. |

Moto Camping: June EditionThe Hill Country has some of the best moto camping in Texas, and June is very workable if you pick sites with water access and shade:Garner State Park (Concan, TX) The crown jewel of Hill Country camping and one of the most popular state parks in Texas. The Frio River runs right through the park — cold, clear water that makes June camping genuinely enjoyable. The roads through Uvalde County approaching from the east are excellent riding. Book well in advance. This fills up months out. Lost Maples State Natural Area (Vanderpool, TX) Right in the heart of Twisted Sisters country. Primitive and developed camping options, outstanding approach roads, and a completely different experience from the river parks. Less well-known than Garner which means slightly better availability. The Big Sycamore Creek campground is worth targeting. Pedernales Falls State Park (Johnson City, TX) About 45 minutes west of Austin. One of the most accessible Hill Country overnight options from the city. The Pedernales River runs through the park, solid camping sites under the live oaks, and excellent backroads in every direction getting there. June Camping Tips Garner State Park reservations go fast. Book 6–8 weeks out for June weekends through the Texas Parks & Wildlife reservation system Lost Maples has more availability but still books out. Reserve 2–3 weeks out Arrive and set up before noon; June afternoons in the canyons are hot and you want to be near water by 1pm Carry extra water for the rides in. Hill Country roads have long stretches without services

June Riding Tips: Central Texas Summer EditionAustin in June is entirely manageable if you ride smart: The 6–9am window is your best friend. Temperatures in the Hill Country are 10–15°F cooler at elevation early in the morning and the roads are completely clear Heat index in Austin proper can push past 105°F by early afternoon; plan to be back or parked somewhere cool before noon on hot days Afternoon thunderstorms build over the Hill Country and push east. Check the radar before heading into the canyons after 1pm; the Sisters can get slick fast and the roads are narrow Ranch roads in the Hill Country have minimal services. Carry water and a plan; the stretches between Leakey and Vanderpool don't have gas stations Mesh gear is essential in June; breathable textile is genuinely functional. Heavy leather is not the call for a Texas summer Hill Country ride

Legal Corner: What To Do After a Motorcycle AccidentIf you’re in a crash: Move to safety. Call 911 and file a police report. Take photos, gather witness info, and keep all paperwork. Texas is an at-fault state—know your insurance rights and required coverage[13][14].
Key Texas Motorcycle Laws: Helmets required for riders under 21; riders 21+ may ride without a helmet if they have completed a safety course or have sufficient health insurance (proof required)[13][14]. Eye protection required unless the bike has a windscreen. Lane splitting is illegal. Motorcycle endorsement (Class M) required on your driver’s license[15].
