Controlled Burn Underway After Red Lodge Compost Site Blaze
A large compost fire near Mildenhall is being left to burn in a controlled manner following a joint decision by Suffolk Fire and Rescue and the Environment Agency. Crews were called to the blaze at The Carrops in Red Lodge on Saturday, with six teams attending at its peak. The decision to manage it as a controlled burn was made to minimise environmental risks, particularly due to the site's proximity to the River Kennett. Smoke is expected to continue for some time, but authorities stress it’s from organic matter and poses limited risk. Emergency services remain on site to monitor the situation.
