Update on the Future of the Canada VRS Platform
In 2024 and 2025, the Canadian Administrator of VRS (CAV) carried out a Request for Information and Qualifications (RFIQ) process to better understand the VRS technology currently available and the companies that could support the service in the future.
Seven organizations responded. Their submissions showed that the VRS marketplace has grown since Canada VRS first launched in 2016, with several providers able to support modern, scalable platforms with multilingual capabilities and important services such as 9-1-1 and 9-8-8 access. Many also described accessibility features and ongoing innovation to improve user experience.
Based on these findings, CAV launched a competitive Request for Proposals (RFP) in December 2025. Qualified companies submitted their proposals in January 2026. CAV is currently reviewing them and proceeding through the various evaluation steps to determine the future VRS platform.
For more details about the consultation process and findings, please refer to the RFI section in the letter filed with the CRTC on February 21, 2026.
