New CRTC Regulatory Policy for Canada VRS

The CRTC has released a new regulatory policy for Canada VRS, setting updated requirements for CAV. We’re pleased to share that CAV has already met key standards, including 24/7 access to 9-8-8 and annual progress reports in English, French, ASL, and LSQ.

New initiatives include updating service standards, enhancing call notifications, and consulting with Indigenous Deaf communities. CAV is committed to these improvements and will share more details as we progress.

A Fresh Start for Customer Service at CAV

In January 2025, CAV brought its Customer Service team, previously managed by IVéS, in-house. CAV’s Customer Service Director David Egan now leads the Deaf ASL and LSQ agent team, serving as the front line for Canadian VRS customers.

This transition allows CAV to gain deeper insights into the user experience and foster stronger connections with its customers. As a first step, the Customer Service team gathered in Montreal for a week of training in late January. We look forward to sharing updates in future newsletters regarding the evolution of Canada VRS customer service delivery.

Last year, Canada VRS marked its 8th anniversary with a special celebration in Surrey, British Columbia. It was a great opportunity to connect with the community and share memorable moments together.

This year, we’re excited to celebrate in a new location, one that holds a special place in the LSQ and ASL communities. Can you guess where?
