Happy Holidays from Canada VRS!

2024 has been a year of growth and progress for CAV. Together, we’ve achieved milestones like upgrading the VRS platform, advancing DeafBlind services, and improving communication through a new Facebook page. We also transitioned our customer service team and started the RFI process for VRS platform providers.

Thank you to our Board, staff, stakeholders, and the Deaf community for your support. Wishing you a happy holiday season and a wonderful New Year. See you in 2025!

DeafBlind Awareness Training at CAV Summit

On October 22, 2024, CAV hosted a DeafBlind Awareness Training during its annual Summit in Ottawa. Led by experts, Robert T. Sirvage and Nancy Dillon, the session brought together CAV staff and representatives from the CAV Technology Platform and Video Interpreter Providers.

The training focused on understanding diverse language styles, video interpreting practices, and communication challenges with the technology of DeafBlind VRS users. This was to follow through on recommendations from the Feasibility Study on Providing Video Relay Services and Meeting the Needs of DeafBlind Users conducted by CAV,

Looking ahead, CAV plans to expand this training in 2025, ensuring its team is equipped to provide more inclusive and supportive Canada VRS experiences for DeafBlind Canadians.

How we build a VRS Platform

You've likely heard the term "Canada VRS Platform." It is the backbone that connects Deaf callers, interpreters, and hearing callers, making VRS possible. Building a VRS platform is like constructing with Lego blocks—but on a grander scale. There are countless elements to consider, and they must work together harmoniously. Selecting the right Lego blocks and ensuring they fit perfectly is a significant responsibility. However, with a well-planned blueprint and solid design, we can build a powerful, reliable, and adaptable VRS platform that serves our community daily.

Customer Service Transition Update

We are excited to provide an update on the transition of Customer Service (9050) to CAV. On January 2, 2025, CAV will officially launch its own customer service operations. The current representatives from IVèS will join us, bringing their valuable expertise to ensure a smooth transition.

In the coming months, we’ll introduce the team and share more updates. We thank IVèS for their contributions and oversight of the Customer Service team to date. CAV remains committed to enhancing the Canada VRS experience and continuing to serve you with excellence.
