As I’ve shared before, many of my recent messages have focused on announcements and updates. While those are important, I also want to continue taking time to share reflections that speak to who we are as a school community and how we grow together in faith.
Years ago, I read a book that described expectations as something that can easily lead to disappointment when they are unmet. As I reflect on my time here at Lakewood Park, I am grateful that we strive for something deeper than simply placing expectations on our students. Instead, we emphasize expectancy — cultivating an internal motivation, a Spirit-led energy that encourages students to grow, learn, and look forward with purpose.
This does not mean we lower our standards. We still hold high academic and behavioral expectations. But our desire is that growth comes from within, not simply from external pressure. I believe this mindset serves not only our students, but all of us as adults as well.
As you spend time in Scripture and prayer in the coming days, I encourage you to consider how we might emphasize expectancy over expectations in our homes and hearts.
