Hello Lakewood Families,

Merry Christmas from our family to yours.

As we celebrate Christmas in so many meaningful ways with our families through treasured traditions, special moments, and time together, I wanted to share a Christmas tradition that has been close to my heart for more than 40 years.

When I was a young teacher in the 1980s, I asked my students about their favorite Christmas traditions. One student shared something I have never forgotten: “We never open a Christmas present until we make sure that Jesus is present.”

That simple idea became a cherished tradition in my family. Mesu and I began hiding baby Jesus when our girls were young, and we have continued the tradition with our grandchildren. Before any presents are opened, I have the privilege, as Grampy Roy, of reading the Christmas story.

This week, I wanted to share that story with you in a special way through the voices of our Lakewood Park students. As they read from the Gospel of Luke, we are reminded that the true joy of Christmas is found in Christ.

“Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you. He is the Messiah, the Lord.”
