Lasting Impact

The Wyoming Innovation Partnership (WIP) is addressing critical workforce gaps in agriculture, digital infrastructure, energy, entrepreneurship, healthcare, manufacturing, workforce development, and tourism while strengthening collaboration across the state’s higher education institutions. As of 2025, the WIP has transformed communities, built pipelines for skilled workers, and driven economic growth statewide.

Advancing Manufacturing and Energy Innovation

Casper College has integrated advanced manufacturing technology into its curriculum, utilizing WIP-supported equipment to meet industry needs. Sheridan College is in a leading role in advanced manufacturing training with micro-certifications and state-of-the-art programs. Western Wyoming Community College (WWCC) is preparing students for vital careers through Powerline Technology, Substation Technician training, and fiber optics specialization. Additionally, WCCC’s cybersecurity and nuclear energy initiatives are expanding workforce opportunities and positioning Wyoming as a leader in energy innovation.

Empowering Software Development and Technology Growth

Sheridan College’s applied software development degrees—the first in Wyoming—are equipping students with in-demand skills. At the University of Wyoming (UW), the School of Computing collaborates with all nine higher education institutions to inspire technological innovation starting as early as elementary school through K-12 outreach. The Wyoming Data Hub is also enhancing digital infrastructure to drive smarter decision-making. Northwest College is contributing to the software economy and Wyoming’s creative industries in collaboration with Sheridan College and UW.

Strengthening Healthcare and Community Well-Being

Healthcare programming across Wyoming’s higher education institutions is building a robust workforce to meet the state’s growing needs. Laramie County Community College launched Wyoming’s first Practical Nursing program in 2024, creating critical pathways into the healthcare sector. Eastern Wyoming College is expanding healthcare education with certified nursing assistant (CNA) and medical assistant (MA) certifications, while Gillette College’s investment in simulation equipment ensures students receive high-quality clinical training. Casper College’s enhanced addiction studies programs are combating substance use disorders, providing much-needed resources for community health.

Expanding Tourism, Hospitality, and Entrepreneurship

Tourism, hospitality, and entrepreneurship are thriving under WIP’s initiatives. The Jay Kemmerer WORTH Institute at the University of Wyoming strengthens the tourism and hospitality sector with applied research and workforce training. Central Wyoming College’s (CWC) new degrees in hospitality, tourism, and event planning are preparing future leaders in these industries. Sheridan College has expanded its offerings with an Agritourism and Event Planning certificate, while Northwest College enhances outdoor education with certifications and training spaces that connect students to opportunities in domestic and international tourism. CWC’s Bootstrap Collaborative is also nurturing entrepreneurship across the state.

Advancing Agriculture and Archaeology

Eastern Wyoming College’s precision farming initiatives are advancing sustainable practices in agriculture, while its archaeology field schools and community outreach events are enriching educational and cultural opportunities. Programs like Controlled Environment Agriculture and Blue Hydrogen research at UW are positioning Wyoming as a leader in sustainable agricultural and energy innovation.

From manufacturing and technology to healthcare and tourism, WIP programs are enriching communities and creating opportunities across Wyoming. With an estimated 690% return on investment over five years, the impact of the Wyoming Innovation Partnership’s efforts is clear… and the work is far from over.
