Encompassing art galleries, music venues, artisan businesses, museums, and more, Wyoming’s creative economy accounts for over 10,000 full-time jobs and significantly contributes to the state’s economy. WIP initiatives include hosting workshops, start-up competitions, and industry mentoring as well as developing a centralized hub for creative entrepreneurs. Workshops have engaged 100+ participants and established 30+ mentorship relationships, supporting sustainable careers and businesses in the arts, ultimately boosting tourism and economic growth.
UW’s College of Business is also enhancing entrepreneurial education through expanded interdisciplinary access and new initiatives. Supported by funds for curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities, the College of Business is introducing professional masterclasses in technology, brewing/distilling, retail, and venture capital. MBA students are able to gain hands-on experience with organizations such as Impact 307 and Rockies Venture Club.
Expanding existing makerspaces’ capacity across the state and establishing new ones is also underway with UW – both brick-and-mortar and mobile. This includes developing curriculum and training programs supporting using makerspaces for increased collaboration between businesses, higher education institutions, K-12 schools, and relevant state agencies, as well as supporting the development of Sheridan College’s manufacturing incubator.
All of these efforts aim to create a dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem in Wyoming, preparing students for successful careers in various industries.
