Enhancing Casper College’s Manufacturing Technology and Automation Degree

Casper College's commitment to advancing their Manufacturing Technology and Automation Degree is reaching new heights with the support of the Wyoming Innovation Partnership (WIP). This initiative demonstrates a significant stride towards modernizing education in manufacturing and automation in Wyoming.

The program’s expansion, made possible by the WIP, integrates hybrid CNC and collaborative robot (cobot) work environments into the curriculum, preparing students for the dynamic challenges of modern manufacturing by exposing them to cutting-edge technologies and practices.

Local industry partners, including GH Manufacturing, Tyrrell Machine, and Oil City Machining, aided the college's commitment to relevance in education with input for the design and development of the lab. Anticipating a transformative impact on the local manufacturing landscape, Casper College foresees the integration of cobots into the processes of three to five small-to-midsize enterprises. This forward-looking approach benefits businesses by enhancing efficiency and productivity, as well as creating potential career pathways for students.

By offering relevant education and building industry partnerships, the WIP’s and Casper College’s contributions to creating sustainable career opportunities for Wyoming residents enrich the local economy and community.

Keeping Wyoming’s Colleges on the Cutting Edge

Expanding Wyoming’s Manufacturing Capabilities

The WIP's Advanced Manufacturing Expansion is a collaborative effort between Laramie County Community College (LCCC), Sheridan College, and Central Wyoming College (CWC) aimed at advancing a cohesive pipeline of advanced manufacturing training and certifications in-state. Through curricular enhancements and equipment investments, this initiative seeks to establish relevant training programs to local area manufacturers, along with programs leading to "micro-certifications" and other industry-recognized credentials.

With a foundation laid in Phase II of the WIP, Sheridan College is gearing up to launch its new Advanced Manufacturing program in the 2024-25 academic year, with a goal of recruiting 12 students in programming. Similarly, LCCC's Smart Manufacturing lab will utilize nationally recognized certifications from organizations like the National Incident Management Systems as part of their expanded credentialing efforts. The certification training at LCCC will support the enrollment of two cohorts of 12 students annually, while additional micro-credentialed and customized open enrollment training is expected to train around 50 students in its first year.

Through these endeavors, the collaborative effort led by the WIP aims to equip Wyoming's workforce with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the dynamic and evolving field of advanced manufacturing.
