What is your occupation?

I’m an English teacher at Dartmouth High School, where I graduated from in 2010. I’ve been teaching here for 9 years after 3 years teaching in Miami-Dade County.

Hobbies/Interests?

I have a love for travel, especially with my wife but even solo or with friends, whether it’s a weekend in New York, a boys trip to Nashville, or one of our frequent family trips to Miami to see family. I love the beach, trying new restaurants, watching movies, reading, long walks with a podcast, and watching sports.

Tell CFD something we may not know about you?

I went to North Carolina for my undergraduate degree and am very passionate about all UNC sports and usually go to a couple of basketball and football games each year. I’ll even watch UNC lacrosse on a Saturday afternoon.

When did you start Crossfitting?

I started on January 5, 2026 right after my 34th birthday and have gone 3-5 days a week pretty much since.

What do you like most about CFD?

Community and intensity! I need to be yelled at and forced to do movements I wouldn't do on my own, then fist bump my friends after busting my ass for an hour.

What was your 1st CrossFit workout?

I just remember rowing and box jumps and I could barely do either. I was so inflexible that I needed help to strap my feet into the rower. Embarrassing to think about now, but I guess we all start somewhere.

In what ways has Crossfit changed your life?

Since January 1, I’ve lost 50 pounds. My bloodwork at the doctor was the best it’s ever been in my adult life. I came here having lost my way a bit health-wise after having my son a year and a half ago. I’ve always loved to workout, but that mostly just consisted of lifting weights on my own and some dabbling in running. The community here and the growth I’ve seen in myself has made me so proud of myself and I can look at my son and just think about how hard I work so that I can continue to show up for him. That’s what’s most important to me, and CrossFit has truly changed my life in that regard.

Favorite workout/movement?

My favorite is the relatively low-skill movements that I could barely do when I started but have seen visible improvement since - box jumps, rowing, sit-ups, shoulder press, etc. And I love to bench. It’s the one area I thrive.

Least favorite workout/movement?

I hate overhead squats, followed closely by front squats! Both are unique forms of punishment that really test my limited mobility.

Any advice you would give to the newbies?

I’m sure this isn’t for everyone, but if you’re at all intrigued by the communal environment and the intensity, CrossFit really speaks to the part of many of us that grew up playing competitive sports and probably haven’t had a similar environment since we left high school. My advice is to give it a try, keep showing up consistently, and tell me if in a month or two you don’t feel so much better about yourself!

I am a Professional Land Surveyor and Regional Director for the engineering and land surveying division at Toll Brothers, a national luxury home builder. I oversee our Northeast operations, including offices in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.

Hobbies/Interests?

I love the outdoors—probably one of the reasons I became a land surveyor. There's nothing quite like standing in the middle of a 400-acre forest and knowing exactly where you are. Most of my hobbies revolve around spending time outside with my family, whether that's hiking through national parks, exploring local conservation trails, or skiing during the winter. We're always willing to travel in search of the perfect snow and the best slopes.

Tell CFD something we may not know about you.

I'm a huge music fan and a true '80s metalhead. Picture shoulder-length hair, a Chevy Camaro with T-tops, band T-shirts, headbanging, mosh pits, and music turned up way too loud—that was me back in the day. My inner Eddie Munson from Stranger Things is still alive and well... he just has a mortgage, a much shorter haircut, and spends more time in CFD than at a concert.

The music is still loud, the band T-shirts are still in the rotation, and I still catch myself headbanging whenever the right song comes on... at least until my wife gets control of the radio. The only downside to CFD is I haven't convinced anyone that heavy lifts deserve heavy metal. Apparently hip hop and techno are more motivating—but I'm still campaigning for an "80s Metal Monday."

When did you start Crossfitting?

I started in April 2024, with a little time off along the way because of a few unrelated injuries.

What do you like most about CFD?

Without question, it's the community and the coaches.

There's also an incredible feeling that comes from finishing something you weren't sure you could do. I have friends who belong to other CrossFit gyms, and some of their stories sound more like Navy SEAL selection than a workout. The more I hear about those experiences, the more I appreciate CFD. The coaches push me to improve while meeting me where I am. Every workout is about becoming a little better than I was the day before.

I know it's become part of my routine because I catch myself watching the clock at work and hoping traffic cooperates so I can make it to the evening WOD. After a long day, CFD has become my chance to disconnect from work, clear my head, and focus on something that's good for me.

What was your 1st CrossFit workout?

I actually had to look it up in SugarWOD because I couldn't remember it.

It started with 3x3 deadlifts, followed by a workout called QFW2 with wall balls and lateral burpee box jump-overs. Looking back in SugarWOD, my results were simply "smiley face".

What I do remember is my 30-minute intro session with Justin—learning the barbell, rowing, squats, and the basics. I could barely move for two days afterward. I remember thinking, "If I keep doing this, I'm going to die."

Turns out, sticking with it was one of the best decisions I've made.

In what ways has CrossFit changed your life?

Early in my CrossFit journey, one WOD I'll never forget included a short run. It wasn't very far, but I was so out of shape that I thought I was going to die.

Coach Michele noticed I was struggling, ran alongside me, and encouraged me the entire way. That moment reminded me what CFD is really about. Nobody judged me—they just helped me keep going.

Fast forward to this past November, and I completed the Spartan 5K at Fenway Park. I'm already planning to do it again this year. Looking back, it's hard to believe how far I've come—from struggling through a short run in that early WOD to finishing a Spartan race. It just goes to show what consistency, encouragement, and an amazing community can do.

What is your favorite workout/movement?

That's a tough question. If "favorite" means seeing it on the board without immediately groaning, I'd probably have to say rowing. It's one of the few workouts where I don't immediately start negotiating with myself.

Least favorite workout/movement?

There are a few movements that make me question my life choices, but if I had to pick one, it'd be the squat snatch.

Any advice you would give to the newbies?

Stick with it.

Endurance, strength, muscles, and washboard stomach don't show up after one workout. Believe me, I'm still waiting for mine.

More importantly, I'm turning 55 this year, and I want to stay healthy and active for decades to come. I needed something in my life besides work and sleep.

Life is stressful enough. Everyone needs an outlet—something that challenges you, keeps you healthy, and surrounds you with good people.

For me, CFD has become that outlet, and it's one of the best decisions I've made.

Big shout out to Coach Emily Burnett who is currently ranked as the 53rd fittest woman in the world going into the Crossfit Semifinals!

What is your occupation?

I work in "go-to-market strategy" at Google Cloud. I don't know what that means but it involves saying "AI" a lot.

How long have you been doing Crossfit?

2 weeks!

What brought you to CFD?

I realized that to be the best Dad I can be, I need to feel strong and fit. And I'd rather work out in group classes than alone.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I love basketball, muay thai, and pickleball. I also write personal essays and short stories.

What's something unique about you that most people don't know?

I'm on a "Rewilding" journey, which means I'm learning ancestral skills like mindfulness outdoors, bushcraft, foraging, traditional archery etc. The idea is not just survival training, but to find a deeper connection to Nature. When I turn 40 I want to do a field expedition with the Boulder Outdoor Survival School. Here's me in a debris shelter I built recently.

What is your occupation?

Anika: Head Field Hockey Coach at UMass Dartmouth

Victoria: Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine at Salve Regina University, I have been a certified athletic trainer for 10 years

How long have you been doing Crossfit?

About a month now. This is our first time and we are loving the vibes, the workouts, and - most especially - the people.

What brought you to CFD?

Anika: It was all Victoria, honestly! We were doing our best to motivate ourselves but couldn’t find anything that stuck, so when Victoria said she wanted to try CrossFit, I figured “why not?” One of my grad school best friends is a CrossFit coach, as well, and has always gushed about the amazing atmosphere.

Victoria: I have always had an interest in Crossfit. I first heard about 10ish years ago through a friend, but never seemed to put the pieces together to join. Finally feeling that I had some sort of grasp on my career, I felt as if it was time to focus on my health and I wanted to be stronger. After seeing that CFD programs the workouts, teaches and trains, and has a welcoming community - I knew it would be the best spot for Anika and I.

What are your hobbies and interests?

Anika: Basically anything that we can bring our pups to! Anything outside - walking, hiking, biking, kayaking, exploring dog-friendly venues… if they can come, we’ll be there. Aside from that, I still play field hockey on the weekends and love just about anything art related.

Victoria: We have three huskies, so by nature that is one of our hobbies - we bring them along for hikes, adventures, and their daily/casual walks and runs. I also love music, everything about it - listening, attending concerts, and attempting to create it myself.

What's something unique about you that most people don't know?

Anika: I just launched a Watercolor Art business about a year ago! It’s a passion project that I couldn’t have imagined I would try to make a real go of. I specialize in pet portraits, landscapes, house paintings, and dabble in a little bit of anything nature related, really. Shameless plug - agoodartstudio.com for anyone interested!

Victoria: Aside from Anika’s plug - we both ride motorcycles. Anika has been riding for 10 years and I am 3 years in now.
