What is your occupation?

I am a Police Officer

Hobbies/Interests?

My hobbies and interests outside of the gym are football, gardening and grilling!

Tell CFD something we don't know about you.

Something CFD doesn’t know about me is, that I’d rather workout to country music (unpopular opinion) and I am a RAD instructor for women’s self defense.

When did you start Crossfitting?

I started CrossFit in 2019

What do you like most about CFD?

I like the atmosphere the coaches bring, all slightly different. For me sometimes hearing/seeing the same technique being taught or explained differently gives me more insight and adds another perspective on how to get better.

What was your 1st CrossFit workout?

I don’t remember, but it was hard.

In what ways has CrossFit changed your life?

CrossFit has changed my life in a good way of my perspective on people. Not everyone is there to be the strongest, fastest or fittest. But they’re there and that’s all that matters.

Favorite workout/movement?

My favorite movement is 1RM MAX ANYTHING! But if I had to choose I’d say power cleans.

Least favorite workout/movement?

Least favorite movement is burpees!

Any advice you would give to the newbies?

If this was easy, everyone would be here.

Wendy Demelo

What is your occupation?

I work for Amazon (Alexa), leading a team of Privacy Risk Managers.  We ensure the customer data Amazon uses to feed it’s artificial intelligence is protected.

 
Hobbies/Interests?

All things outdoors. I live on Watuppa Pond and like to spend my time off paddle boarding and watching the wildlife or hanging out with my dogs.

Tell CFD something we don't know about you.

I’ve eaten only plants for the past 15 years.  I’ll still come to the Paleo Potlucks though!

When did you start Crossfitting?

Almost 8 years ago.  I had no idea it would become such a big part of my life.  I’m so glad I got up the nerve to walk in.  I had thought about it for a while.

What do you like most about CFD?

No one quits a workout.  It’s really inspiring to see people push themselves through difficult things. 

What was your 1st CrossFit workout?

I don’t remember exactly but I know it included burpees.  I had never heard of a burpee before.

In what ways has CrossFit changed your life?

CrossFit introduced me to so many incredible people and has motivated me to do things I would have never done. 

Favorite workout/movement?

All forms of deadlifts.  Easy and effective.

Least favorite workout/movement?

Wall walks.  I don’t like anything about them.

Any advice you would give to the newbies?

Decide you are just going to do it.  Don’t entertain any excuses.  Make Crossfit the one thing you do for yourself that is non-negotiable.

Meet Dana Cambra

What is your occupation?

Medical Device Executive

How long have you been doing CrossFit?

I started about 6 years ago at CFD. Moved after 6 months here. Did not continue while in California so kind of a newbie. 

What brought you to CFD?

My job now allows me to spend more time at my home in Westport. Excited to be back.

What are your hobbies and interests?

Boating, Kite Surfing 

What’s something unique about you that most people don’t know?

Spent several years in Russia leading my Invisalign Engineering team. 

Meet Rachel Stronach

What is your occupation?

Executive Director at the Lloyd Center for the Environment

How long have you been doing CrossFit?

Just a few weeks, but everyone at CFD has been so helpful, welcoming, and supportive!

What brought you to CFD?

I was an avid runner before I had my daughter (I can't believe she's already seven!), but I was interested in joining a group workout setting and incorporating more focus on strength. Two of my friends/colleagues encouraged me to try CrossFit (Hamza and Ali). I have no experience lifting however thanks to the coaches and wonderful folks at the 6:00 am class, I am learning! 

What are your hobbies and interests?

I have always loved being outside, but I am particularly happy when I am in, on, or around the water - swimming, kayaking, canoeing, snorkeling, diving - pretty much anything! 

What’s something unique about you that most people don’t know?

I studied spinner dolphins in the Philippines as part of my master's thesis and I am currently a Ph.D. candidate in STEM Education at Umass Dartmouth.
