Julia Hernandez BotelhoWhat is your occupation? I’m a Commercial Credit Underwriter for TD Bank. I’m in charge of a portfolio of about 80 companies and all their loans. I complete reviews annually of each of them to ensure they are financially stable and are still able to repay their debt. I like it because I get to learn about so many different industries and businesses. I could be working on researching a local restaurant, a high end Jean company based out of New York, a youth summer camp, a CVS, a construction company and everything in between.
Hobbies/Interests?
CrossFit of course, but I also enjoy gardening, reading, and most of all, traveling! I’m fortunate to get a lot of PTO and I definitely take advantage. My most recent travels were to Brazil, Iceland, Poland and Italy. I always say I’m happiest when I have a trip booked. 🙂 I also tend to DIY anything and everything just for the fun of it, whether it’s learning how to make soap, using my Cricut to customize literally anything or even learning how to be a wedding florist. My friends always tell me I should sell what I make but I feel like that would take the fun out of it, although I did start a small side business of doing wedding flowers and I’ve really enjoyed it.

I’m in the process of getting my Polish citizenship When did you start Crossfitting?
I started June 2022 at Crossfit781 in Weymouth and then started CFD in January 2023. What do you like most about CFD?
What’s not to like? CFD has been something I really look forward to daily. I get excited when I get a new PR and I love when I can finally do a certain movement that I’ve been working on. I swear it took me three years just to be able to do a kipping swing, but the day that I was able to was a great day.

What was your 1st CrossFit workout?
I don’t remember but I only started CrossFit because a friend of mine wanted to join and she didn’t want to join alone so she asked me to do it with her. I didn’t think I would like it and didn’t pay too much attention at first, but I ended up loving it and my friend ended up quitting within a few months. In what ways has CrossFit changed your life?
So many ways! I feel stronger than I ever thought possible for myself. I was never one to lift anything heavier than 20lb dumbbells, mostly because I didn’t think I could, but I really proved myself wrong. Favorite workout/movement?
Cleans, split jerks and snatches Least favorite workout/movement?
Thrusters, overhead squats, burpees and most of all, running, if running even counts — I ran track and cross country in high school and then continued running as my main form of exercise for at least another 6 years; I even ran a half marathon in 2014. I got many injuries along the way, some that have lingered so I stopped running. I’ll only run short distances now like 200 meters and even then I’ll probably opt to bike or row lol Any advice you would give to the newbies?
Don’t compare yourself to anyone. Everything in CrossFit is hard at first and everyone was a beginner at one point. Consistency will get you to where you want to be. Also, listen to the coaches!

Cintia CondezWhat is your occupation?Nurse practitioner in family medicine/obesity management
Hobbies/Interests?
Crossfit now of course! I honestly love being creative! Painting, sewing, crafting but my biggest passions are helping people in their health journey and singing.
Tell CFD something we don't know about you.
I have been singing since age 7 and started singing in local bands at age 19 both in Portuguese wedding bands, yes I was a “wedding singer” lol, then transitioned to rock/pop cover bands and now am singing in both genres and enjoying every gig. When did you start Crossfitting?
February/March 2024 What do you like most about CFD?
The community! Crossfit has changed my perspective on what a gym should be. It has given me the sense of camaraderie I have never felt at any other gym. Everyone is cheering you on even if you have never met personally which makes me want to keep coming back!

What was your 1st CrossFit workout?
I don't remember the entire workout but I know it incorporated burpees and I thought I was going to pass out after 5 min but I made it through. In what ways has CrossFit changed your life?
CrossFit transformed me physically which I am grateful for since I struggled with weight for years, it also has changed my outlook on health in general I feel stronger and more confident in my abilities which has made me more apt to try new things. Thanks to CrossFit I ran my first 5k on Mother’s Day, I would have never been able to do that without the strengthening and conditioning that CrossFit has provided me. Favorite workout/movement?
Power cleans and split jerks in lifting and running or rowing for cardio Least favorite workout/movement?
Thrusters and burpees Any advice you would give to the newbies?
Try to enjoy every minute even when you feel like you can’t keep going trust me you can, and every completed wod is a gain you will be amazed at how fast you progress and how strong you will feel!

Meet Hernan MoralesWhat is your occupation? I work in house remodeling.
How long have you been doing CrossFit? I started in 2018, but I stopped doing CrossFit three years ago due to an injury. I've been doing it for five consecutive years now. What brought you to CFD?
The desire to be part of the CrossFit community again, and secondly, I was already feeling better from my injury, and thirdly, I'm new to this state of Massachusetts and there's nothing better than making friends in the CrossFit community. What are your hobbies and interests? My hobbies are walking, on the beach, in the woods, I love the city center and even more so if I'm riding my bicycle. What’s something unique about you that most people don’t know? I'm a person who has struggled a lot in my country, and now that I'm here, I continue to struggle. But that's why we do CrossFit: to fight and fight and never give up.
