Katherine "Dr. Kate" FriasWhat is your occupation?Pediatrician
Hobbies/Interests?
I love to travel, I also like running, reading, gardening, baking.
Tell CFD something we don't know about you.
I volunteer as one of the reserve stewards at the Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust (specifically at the Frank Knowles/Little River reserve). When did you start Crossfitting?
July 2014 What do you like most about CFD?
The people. I’ve been here long enough now that I’ve met so many wonderful people that I probably wouldn’t have come across otherwise.

What was your 1st CrossFit workout?
5 rounds for time - 400 m run, 30 box jumps, 15 pull ups. I think it was called Irish Car Bomb. I couldn’t straighten my arms for days and I used the thickest band. I only came because my running partner wanted to try it. She didn’t keep coming, but I was hooked. In what ways has CrossFit changed your life?
I’m so much stronger physically. Also I’m really appreciative of what my body can do - it’s freeing, since I spent the majority of my 20s trying to be the smallest version of myself, but now I’m trying to be the strongest version of myself. It has been a great mindset shift. Favorite workout/movement?
Box jumps probably. I like power cleans and the machines too. Least favorite workout/movement?
Fran. Thrusters are my least favorite, for sure. Any advice you would give to the newbies?
Just keep showing up, focus on yourself and your own progress, don’t compare yourself to where someone else is. Also, better to scale appropriately and be able to show up tomorrow, than do too much and end up on the sideline for days (or more).

Aurienne DembitzkiWhat is your occupation?I AM RETIRED!!! However, I worked as an elementary special education teacher for 35 years. I began teaching in Boston, then Fort Lauderdale and ended my teaching career in New Bedford at the elementary school that I went to as a child (Ellen R. Hathaway School).
Hobbies/Interests?
First and most importantly my main interests are my two boys, even though they’re grown adults, my daughter in law and of course my husband Bob. Family is everything to me. I am also a huge baseball fan and a Red Sox season ticket holder. I’ve attended every opening day for the past 20 years or longer, I just can’t remember.
Tell CFD something we don't know about you.
I graduated Boston College in 1983 with a Master’s Degree in Severe Special Needs. I’m also Native American from the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe. Believe it or not my Indian name is “Running Mouth”. I also love to listen to traditional Christmas music every night when I go to bed all year round. When did you start Crossfitting?
I started CrossFit in August 2018. What do you like most about CFD?
6 AM class! - It gets me up, I get to see my lovely coaches and my workout partners. After I leave it makes me feel great throughout the rest of the day.

What was your 1st CrossFit workout?
My first CrossFit workout were the element classes with Coach Steve. After I completed the first class, which I believe was a lot of rowing, I said “Oh My God! what did we get ourselves into!” In what ways has CrossFit changed your life?
Since being retired, it keeps me on a routine. I feel strong and in shape. Age is just a number! Favorite workout/movement?
I really like push presses and pull-ups, even though I still use the bands hopefully I will lose them one day! Least favorite workout/movement?
Squat snatches!! However, I am getting better at them because of my consistency. The stationary bike isn’t my favorite either, I feel like it takes me nowhere. Any advice you would give to the newbies?
My advice would be, if you want to get or stay healthy and strong, consistency is the key. It’s not about lifting heavy weights (unless you want to). It’s more about your form. Slow and steady and just keep moving. If you have questions don’t be afraid to speak up and ask your coaches. They’re all great and will help you anyway they can. Also, if you come to the 6:00am class, I will gladly show you where my spot is, even though I have been told many times there are no assigned spots!
