Continue with the genealogy of my family. A daily crossword puzzle to keep the mind working, some knitting and crocheting. Also play Mah Jongg every week with a group of other "senior citizens ".
Tell CFD something we don't know about you.
Went to college when my children were in middle and high school. Have a degree in computer programming. When did you start Crossfitting?
November 2018 there was a 6 week challenge mentioned on FB. I was looking for something other than yoga. At the end of that challenge I became a member in January 2019.What do you like most about CFD?
The variety of the workouts and a coach is always paying attention to the members. Also the ability to scale or replace a movement. I’ve find everyone to be helpful.

What was your 1st CrossFit workout?
Don’t remember the first work out. Whatever it was it obviously didn’t scare me away.In what ways has CrossFit changed your life?
In quite a few ways. Needed to lose weight when I joined and did lose a significant amount. Gained strength and confidence to try new things. I really believe that having been going to CF for a number of years helped me with my recovery from 3B lung cancer last year.Favorite workout/movement?
Using weights. Deadlift became my favorite.Least favorite workout/movement?
Anything involving jumping, jump rope. I do calf raises instead and are the least favorite.Any advice you would give to the newbies?
Keep returning to the gym. Don’t think you can’t do something, think “I’m may not be able to do this right now, but I’ll get there”. Think positive

Michael RockWhat is your occupation?Host of Fun 107 morning show & Director of Content for Fun 107 and WBSM
Hobbies/Interests?
CrossFit, watching football, Fantasy Football
Tell CFD something we don't know about you.
I haven’t had caffeine in 14 years. I also don’t drink alcohol because I just don’t enjoy it. My weakness is ice cream. When did you start Crossfitting?
Started CrossFit 10 years ago. Wish I started 30 years ago. I would have loved to see what I could have done as a teen. What do you like most about CFD?
If I’m in a lull, it’s always the people that keep me coming back. The culture that has been built at CFD is magical. Welcoming to everyone…regardless of athletic ability. The coaches are CFD’s most valuable asset.

What was your 1st CrossFit workout?
Watching the class before finish the WOD, I was so intimidated. There was definitely KB swings and a complex overhead movement. The music was blaring and I was so nervous that I was in over my head. In what ways has CrossFit changed your life?
CFD has 100% changed my life. I feel better at 51 than I did at 31. I feel like I am aging slower than my peers. CFD is the only thing I do that I just get to be me…with no one else relying on me for anything. The best part of CFD is the fact that the coaches know everyone so well. This allows them the ability to push athletes beyond what they thought possible and also to protect them from trying to do too much beyond their current ability. Favorite workout/movement?
My favorite workouts are normally Thursdays. I like the circuit training. 5 rounds: 1 minute of x, 1 minute of y, 1 minute of z, rest one minute, etc. I also love the weekend partner workouts. You can’t let down your partner, so you’ve got to give it everything you can.Least favorite workout/movement?
Least favorite movements are overhead squats and any snatch movements. The WORST.Any advice you would give to the newbies?
My advice to newbies is to make technique a priority…not weight. The goal is to stay healthy and not get hurt. Listen and watch the coaches closely. They all have something to offer. If you’re talking during their demo you will miss important advice. Finally , don’t compare your CrossFit performance to anyone but your past self. If you can stay healthy and keep coming back to CFD, you will achieve things you never thought possible. I promise.

Coach Jason BurnettCertification(s): CF Level 1, USA Weightlifting Level 1, United Soccer Coaches Advanced National DiplomaFavorite CrossFit movement: Toes to bar and rope climbsFavorite song to WOD to: “Hall of Fame” - SwoopeFavorite Hero/Benchmark WOD: AmandaWhat inspired you to become a CrossFit coach? I have been coaching since I was 18 - youth soccer goalkeepers, at 20 my first club team, and at 21 my college coaching career began where I coached many years at the D1, D2 and D3 level. Most recently I was the head coach at UMass Dartmouth for the last 3 seasons. I had never thought about coaching crossfit - I was always afraid it wouldn’t measure up to my previous experiences (some college athletes may be able to relate to this) - until I met Emily and began helping her with parts I felt were transferable from my coaching and playing days. She reminded me what it looks like to be coachable, to give 100% effort, and pursue being the best you can be - just in a different sport. As I watched her grow at CFD as an athlete and coach, and the impact that our coaches make on the community here, I felt a calling to give what I can to our gym as a coach. What has been your best coaching experience so far? Having the trust from Coach Justin (including sending me to USAWL) and Coach Jay to allow me the creative freedom to program and coach OLY Class on Sundays has been a lot of fun. There’s one class I remember specifically we were doing ¼ Jerks as a primer and after that we had 4 out of the 8 members who attended class PR their jerk! Something’s workin’!If you could give someone new to CrossFit just one piece of advice, what would it be? Don’t take yourself too seriously! Every moment you spend in the gym is a moment you’re spending getting better. You’re already ahead of the game the moment you show up. So do your best, forget the rest, give what you got for the day and move on to the next - don’t allow your competitive nature to consume you. Let your personality out a bit, use this hour of movement as time to express whatever it is you’re feeling on the day whether it’s anger, frustration, joy or happiness, let it out!How long have you been doing CrossFit and coaching?I took my first crossfit classes at OSCF in 2014 - but I was on and off with it because I didn’t take care of my body so I was prone to injury. I was drinking too much, and allowed my competitiveness to push me to do more than I was capable of. October 17th will be 2 years alcohol free for me! If you’re battling with this - you’re not alone and I’m happy to talk anytime. I’ve been coaching crossfit for the last year.Do you remember your first Crossfit workout? If so, what was it and how did it go? The first workout I remember had some combination of burpee shuttle runs and box jumps. Believe it or not, I was actually much more agile 10 years ago when it came to plyometrics and running - that stuff was my jam when I first started and now I pray for anything else.If “Jason Burnett” was a WOD, what would it be?100 DU, 50 T2B, 50 DB Snatches, 100 DU, 50 DB Snatches, 50 T2B, 100 DUWhat is one thing everyone should know about you that they may not know?Everyone thinks I’m a very serious person. Sure, when it comes to doing things the right way, and occasionally in competition (like we all saw at Ranch Wars), I can be, but other than that I like to laugh and have fun. Don’t let the idea that I’m in the gym training all the time fool ya, it’s been a long road of ups and much more downs just to be here, I thank the Lord, my wife Emily, and this gym because I might be lost without all of it.

Meet Joseph BeattieWhat is your occupation?I am a Marine Science Technician in the US Coast Guard. I do the Coast Guard's maritime safety and security missions. A lot of pollution response and environmental protection as well as safety and security inspections on US flagged and foreign flagged commercial vessels and designated waterfront facilities. How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I started CrossFit about eight years ago to help get in shape before I went to boot camp. I did not expect to get hooked! I fell out of it while I was stationed on board a cutter but I was able to really get into it again six years ago once I started shore duty. What brought you to CFD?
Finding a new gym was high on my to do list once I moved up here. I did a trial class and once I saw how welcoming the coaches and everyone was I knew this is where I wanted to be. What are your hobbies and interests?
I am a certified diver and have been very fortunate to be able to dive in a lot of cool places! I play the saxophone and I have performed in front of over 80,000 people and have performed on national TV multiple times. I used to play a lot of hockey but two bad concussions put an end to that. What’s something unique about you that most people don’t know?
I was the drum major for my college's marching band, which means I was pretty much the head band geek!

My Fiance and I are both former college athletes and for years since we graduated we hadn't found a workout that pushed us hard enough so as we were trying to get in shape for our wedding in Nov we came across CFD for a drop in and finally found what we were looking for in terms of intensity and competitive environment. What are your hobbies and interests?
Snowboarding, traveling, beach! What’s something unique about you that most people don’t know?
Uhhhhhh my two front teeth are fake! They were knocked out when I was 12.

Meet Sam Olsen! What is your occupation?I'm a sports medicine physical therapist. My specialty is runners, strength and endurance athletes. Recently I opened my own practice in New Bedford called Cornerstone Performance and Physical Therapy. How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I first tried Crossfit over 6 years ago when I lived in Winthrop, MA and only just started up again this August. What brought you to CFD?
I've been a runner for a long time, but have always struggled with building strength and power. I decided to join Crossfit because I wanted to be a stronger runner and to get stronger overall to stay healthy and help keep me from getting injured. What are your hobbies and interests?
My main hobby is running, but I also like hiking and skiing in the winter and would love to travel out west more. I'm always looking for a good book too if anyone has recommendations! What’s something unique about you that most people don’t know?
I like to knit as a means of stress management. I actually find it very mindful and it helps to calm anxiety.

Meet Kristen Rose! What is your occupation?I am a licensed clinical social worker. How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I have been doing CrossFit on and off for 8 years. What brought you to CFD?
When I started back up with CrossFit a year ago, I was looking not only for convenience of location but a place that felt like a community. From being a part of the 6am crew for most of my time at CFD to now joining the afternoon classes it has been overall a welcoming experience. What are your hobbies and interests?
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, playing tennis and pickleball, and trying new restaurants. What’s something unique about you that most people don’t know?
I am ambidextrous, I mainly write with my left and play tennis with my right, but other than that I am pretty interchangeable!
