Soraia "The Empress" Amorim . Registered Nurse 2. My main hobby is definitely CrossFit, although 9/10 at least one of my kids comes to class with me, it is still the one thing I do for myself that brings me joy and sense of accomplishment. For interests I enjoy a good book, shopping, or stepping out for a good meal! 3. I’m not sure if most know but I was actually born in Viana do Castelo, Portugal. I came to the US when I was 11 and did not speak any English until I started school here in 6th grade. 4. I started CrossFit in 2014 but was only consistent for about 1 year, then started back up in 2017 for about another year, and then picked back up in 2020 and have been pretty consistent since. 5. I love working out as a community and being inspired by everyone around me, wether it’s people twice my age crushing WODs or people half my size lifting the same weight as me, just looking around and seeing so much talent and dedication is what pushes me to give it my all in every work out. 6. I don’t remember what my first CrossFit work out was, but I remember my first elements class with Justin and barely making it down the stairs the next day from being so sore after just doing a couple air squats with a PVC pipe! lol 7. CrossFit has built a foundation for me to lead an active lifestyle. To me CrossFit isn’t a chore or obligation it’s truly my sanity. I look forward to class and the high of “dying” after each work out. Without CrossFit I think I would be struggling to be consistent with physical activity. 8. Favorite movements would have to be power/squat cleans, wall balls, and lunges. 9. Least favorite movements are anything on the rig although over the last 4 months I have been really pushing myself to get better on the rig. 10. The best advice I have for anyone new to CrossFit is to just show up, stay consistent, get through the first 3 months and trust the process. Once you get over those first couple of months it really becomes a different experience. Also my infamous line to anyone struggling mid work out is “stop thinking about it you’re not going to die”. What was your 1st CrossFit workout? I don’t remember what my first CrossFit work out was, but I remember my first elements class with Justin and barely making it down the stairs the next day from being so sore after just doing a couple air squats with a PVC pipe! lol In what ways has CrossFit changed your life? Mark "M-Whip" Whipple What is your occupation? Securities finance at Invesco.
What are your hobbies/interests? Unfortunately, kids' activities always take priority. But when I do get some free time, I like spending it outside in the garden or doing yard work. When you spend so much time behind a desk, outside work is actually a treat.
Tell CFD something we don’t know about you? Back in the day I could make a mean scrapbook.
When did you start Crossfitting? Sometime back in 2018, but only as a punch card member... It took a job change to allow me to actually go more than once a week.
What do you like most about CFD? I’ve always enjoyed working out. But after college, with nothing to train for, finding consistency at a gym was hard. When I first found out about CrossFit, I really wanted to try, but was definitely intimidated. CFD provided a welcoming environment that got me in the door and I've been hooked ever since.

What was your 1st CrossFit workout? I can’t remember the workout exactly but it had a lot of rig work. I just remember thinking “what the hell kind of pull-ups are these people doing, and how have they not all torn their rotator cuff!”
In what ways has CrossFit changed your life? CrossFit is my therapy. If I miss classes for an extended period of time it definitely impacts my mood. Something about hard work really clears your mind.
Favorite workout/movement? Favorite movement: Turkish get-ups. I know it's crazy, but once I started putting them into my at home COVID workouts, they grew on me. Favorite workout: Murph. Frankly, any hero WOD. Hard to quit on a workout when you know their sacrifice. They also take forever. Any workout over 30 min always has my vote.
Least favorite workout/movement? Thrusters. They should be banned.
Any advice you would give to newbies? Easy for me to say now, but don’t be intimidated by a workout. Everyone in the room has had a “first class” experience. Just work hard, push yourself and it will all come together. Oh, and make sure not to shave reps... it's a bad habit.
