Tina "Power Cleana" BennettWhat is your Occupation? High School Guidance Counselor
Hobbies/Interests I love listening to music, especially live music, going to the beach, gardening and DIY projects. Tell CFD something we don’t know about you. That I’m actually an introvert and hate leaving the house. Haha! Yeah right! I’m an open book, outgoing and enjoy meeting new people. Truthfully, though, I’ve never participated in any organized sport. CF is the closest I’ve ever gotten and I love the physicality combined with the friendly competition. It’s fun and great motivation! When did you start Crossfitting? January 2, 2021. I bet a lot of people thought I was just a New Year’s “Resolutioner”, but I surprised them and stuck around! lol What do you like most about CFD? The inspiring and knowledgeable coaches, the members and the positive energy. It’s contagious! Again, I also enjoy the competition which is often times between the opposing forces at play in my mind. Sometimes the “mental mud” feels impossible to push past, but if I dig deep and just show up, before you know it, I’m drenched in sweat and in a totally different, confident and proud mind space. It’s miraculous!

What was your 1st CrossFit workout? I can’t remember my first WOD but I do vividly remember partnering with Emily Whipple very early on. Imagine my surprise when I realized she was an RX athlete! Nonetheless, I was honored and truly grateful for her kindness, humility and encouragement…just like all of the incredible athletes at CFD…well, except for Paulo! Lol jk! Having a good sense of humor is also big part of CFD. In what ways has CrossFit changed your life? It has helped me continue to realize my potential and surrounded me with like-minded, inspirational people from which I have learned so much and have had the privilege to get to know. Favorite Workout/movement I like chipper WODs better than shorter, more intense, strength based work, however, partner workouts are my favorite. No surprise! Least Favorite Workout/movement I don’t have a least favorite because I still get a bit intimidated by most WODs, at least initially. However, I must say that I’m not very fond of all the math and all the counting. I can’t count to save my life when all of my blood is surging everywhere but my brain! In the end, it’s just another way to challenge myself and I’ll be damned if I don’t eventually get it right. Good thing I’m not shy about asking questions! lol Any advice you would give to newbies? Don’t stick with CF if your goals are only aesthetic and physique based. Show up and be consistent if you want to change who you are from the inside out and want a full, active, long life filled with great friends and a second family.

David LambertWhat is your Occupation? Pharmacist by trade but now oversee the patient safety team at CVS.
Hobbies/Interests Obviously CrossFit but also enjoy eating out and drinking and collecting fine wines. Also love traveling with Melissa and the kids when they feel like being around us.
Tell CFD something we don’t know about you? I use to play Jai Alai in an amateur league in Newport and Milford CT.
When did you start Crossfitting? November of 2015
What do you like most about CFD? I would say what I like most is the community and also the variations of workouts. It’s not like when I was younger going to the gym one day legs next chest and so on. CrossFit keeps it interesting I look forward to 8pm the night before to see what I have in store for me the following day.

What was your 1st CrossFit workout? Honestly can’t remember I do know when I started you required to complete element classes and usually ended with a 10 minute workout on movements we just covered in that elements class.
In what ways has CrossFit changed your life? I would definitely say from a health perspective it’s changed my life. Prior to CrossFit I had high cholesterol and I was able bring it down without medication. Plus with out CrossFit I have no doubt I would most likely be 300lbs have high blood pressure and high cholesterol today. So definitely changed my life from a health perspective minus the multitude of surgeries!
Favorite Workout/movement? Shoulder press and deadlifts
Least Favorite Workout/movement? Turkish get ups and wall walks
Any advice you would give to newbies? My advice would be to embrace the community and stay within yourself. CrossFit is great from a competitive perspective but I see a lot of new people get caught up in the hype of the leaderboard. It’s great to be competitive but be proud in the fact that you get a little better everyday even if you’re not at the top of the leaderboard.

Wade "WODFather" GomesCrossFit Certification(s): L1, L2 Favorite CrossFit movement: It’s too hard to pick one but I’m pretty good at snatches, rowing, and burpees. I’m not so good at handstand walking but I enjoy practicing. Favorite song to WOD to: As a DJ, this is almost impossible to pick but one that always pumps me up and that I’m not sick of yet is The Roots - Don’t Say Nothing. Favorite Hero/Benchmark WOD: “Isabel” What inspired you to become a CrossFit coach? I’ve been a high school teacher for 17 years and my parents were both educators so I guess teaching is just in my blood. Once I felt confident in my abilities as a Crossfitter, it was kind of a natural progression for me to get my Level 1 and start coaching. I remember how inspiring the coaches were to me when I started Crossfit at CF Bridgewater and I wanted to try and pay that forward to the members at Crossfit Dartmouth. There aren’t too many better feelings in this world than helping someone reach their fitness goals. When I help an athlete to get over a sticking point in their game and see something click all of sudden, it’s a great feeling as a coach. What has been your best coaching experience so far? There have been so many for me over the last 10 years of coaching at CFD, it’s really hard to pick one. The moments I like the most are when I can help an athlete get a first like their first pull-up or first double under. When I can be there to witness this “first” for them and possibly be part of the reason that it happened, it just feels really gratifying. I’m also in charge of the CFD newsletter and I love sharing the news with our members that they have been voted in as a “Member of the Month”.

If you could give someone new to CrossFit just one piece of advice, what would it be? Embrace the suck. Understand that this stuff is hard and it can take a while to get some of the movements down or to be able to increase the load on that barbell. If you can find a way to check the ego and take it slow, the rewards that will eventually come are really really worth it. We all have movements that we would like to improve on. I still have them 10 years later. Don’t skip the days when those movements show up. Learn (with the help of your coach) how to scale so you can practice the form and technique rather than only showing up when it’s a WOD with movements that you are good at. How long have you been doing CrossFit and coaching? I joined Crossfit Bridgewater in September of 2011 but I didn’t really commit the way I needed to on my first go around. I didn’t change my diet much and I would only go a couple of days a week. It was better than nothing but I wasn’t really improving much so I didn’t fall in love with it this first time around. I quit three months later right before the December holiday season. That holiday season I ate all the holiday treats, got into the worst shape of my life, and got really depressed. I made a New Year’s resolution to go back to CFB in January of 2012 and I joined the Winter Paleo Challenge. The challenge ran for 12 weeks and it was during that time that things really started to click for me and my Crossfit journey. I won that Challenge losing almost 30 pounds. I progressed pretty quickly after that. By the time we got to the summer of 2012 I I had gotten my first RX pull-up, RX handstand push up, and RX rope climb. I never thought in a million years when I started Crossfit that I would be able to do any of those movements! This month is my 10 year coaching anniversary. Do you remember your first Crossfit workout? If so, what was it and how did it go? I don’t remember my first Crossfit workout but I remember I sucked at pretty much everything when I started. I never got nauseous like some people do but I definitely remember being light-headed on some of those early WODs. If “WODFather” was a WOD, what would it be? Part 1: 2K Row
Part 2: 10 Rounds of: 10 Hang Snatches 10 Pull-ups 10 Sittups
Part 3: 50 Burpees What is one thing everyone should know about you that they may not know? Besides being a high school teacher and a Crossfit Coach, I’m also a web designer and a DJ. Thanks mostly to my traveling and camping-loving parents, I’ve been to every state in the US except Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and North Dakota.
