John BrumWhat is your Occupation? Real Estate Attorney for 24 years.
Hobbies/Interests CrossFit, of course. I love spending time with my wife and two boys and family and friends. I love watching and playing sports. I also love vacations and watching movies. Tell CFD something we don’t know about you. I played ice hockey from the time I was five years old through college. I also used to be a DJ in middle school and high school. When did you start Crossfitting? I started at CFD in 2015. I used to drive by all the time and would often ask myself, “I wonder what they do at CrossFit?” And the rest is history. What do you like most about CFD? I love the strong sense of community and the camaraderie among fellow members and coaches. I also love the variety and diversity of CrossFit. Each day brings a new challenge such as weightlifting, gymnastics, cardio, and more. The coaches at CFD are amazing and they provide personalized guidance and instruction to help you perform exercises safely and effectively. I also love how CrossFit emphasizes functional movements that translate to real-life activities. The workouts at CFD are intense and challenging, pushing you to your limits and the sense of accomplishment from completing a tough workout is very rewarding.

What was your 1st CrossFit workout? I believe it was Fran. I couldn’t do a pullup to save my life. I am amazed how CFD has helped improve my fitness and strength. In what ways has CrossFit changed your life? CrossFit has improved my fitness levels, increased my confidence by mastering new skills. It has also helped me make good lifestyle changes beyond the gym such as better eating habits and being mindful of my overall well-being. CrossFit has also improved my mental toughness by helping me maintain a “one more rep” attitude. CrossFit is also a huge stress relief and is undoubtedly the best part of my day. Favorite Workout/movement Strict pull ups of course. I also love the grind of Murph. It’s one of the more challenging CrossFit workouts and your mind is constantly telling you to quit, but you continue to fight and grind. Thrusters, KB swings , rope climbs, and burpees are also some of my favorites. Least Favorite Workout/movement Wall walks and Turkish get ups are my least favorite movements. Any advice you would give to newbies? Start slowly, focus on technique and listen to your body. Don't feel pressured to keep up with everyone else right away. We have the best coaches in the business so pay attention to their instructions and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Take breaks when needed and scale workouts as necessary. Also, embrace the Community and camaraderie. Most of all, be patient. Don't expect overnight transformations. Stay committed to your workouts and trust the process, knowing that consistency and perseverance will pay off in the long run. Have some fun too!!

Melissa LambertWhat is your Occupation? Sr. Manager of Pharmacy Workflow Design for CVS
Hobbies/Interests Obviously CrossFit but I also love yoga, music and going to concerts and love to read. Dave and I also love to travel, my favorite vacation spot is the BVIs but love to visit new places. Next year we’ll cross one more place off my bucket list when we go to Hawaii to celebrate Danica’s high school graduation.
Tell CFD something we don’t know about you? I’m a cancer survivor (14 years this year!) and I’m grateful for the perspective it’s given me on trying to stay healthy and why I do CrossFit. On the days where I may feel down on myself for any reason or compare myself to what others can do I remember how strong I am,mentally and physically, and am grateful for the amazing things my body can do and being healthy enough to workout
When did you start Crossfitting? November 2015
What do you like most about CFD? I like the confidence it’s given me and the role it plays in keeping me healthy not only through physical activity but as a mental de stressor. But most of all I love the fact that I share this with my family, being able to spend this time with Dave, Danica and (sometimes) Liam is just the best!

What was your 1st CrossFit workout? I don’t remember my first workout but I do remember doing Thanksgiving day Murph only 2 weeks after starting and how crazy hard it was (and still is)
In what ways has CrossFit changed your life? It’s helped me gain a lot of confidence in my physical abilities and hopefully helping me remain active as I get older. And the friendships I’ve made with so many amazing people over the past 8 years is such a blessing.
Favorite Workout/movement? Any type of Olympic lifting movement, overhead squats and kettlebell swings. I’ve also grown to really like box jumps (even though I’m slow AF at them)
Least Favorite Workout/movement? Burpees and front squats
Any advice you would give to newbies? Don’t expect CrossFit to ever get “easier”. It’s always going to be hard because as you get better and accomplish goals, you set new goals and push yourself to do more. And don’t ever sell yourself short. This stuff is hard no matter what fitness level you are at. Even if you have to scale every movement, own it and be proud of the hard things you’re accomplishing!
