Volunteer Spotlight

Meet Mr. Edwin Brantley – Our Faithful Shed Manager

Edwin grew up in Toombs and Montgomery counties and graduated from Vidalia High School before earning his Education degree from Georgia Southern. He began his teaching career at Ware County High School, where he also met his wife, Brenda. In the early 1970s, they moved to Lyons, where Edwin taught at Robert Toombs Christian Academy and became active at Lyons First Baptist Church.

After several years in education, Edwin transitioned to Plant Hatch with Georgia Power/Southern Nuclear, retiring after 40 years in Operations and Training. Retirement opened the door to community service, including helping remodel the first Mercy Clinic and contributing to the home that became The Dream Center.

Edwin has a passion for restoring old furniture, a hobby that reflects his belief in renewal and second chances. His work with Imago Dei has been especially meaningful. Inspired by his friend John Adams, he helped repair the brick lattice wall and restore the old utility shed, which now serves as the donation drop-off. He continues to sort and prepare items—recently focusing on cleaning donated shoes so children receive the best possible care.

Edwin and Brenda are also helping raise their three youngest grandchildren, supporting them with school and daily activities. They consider it a blessing to serve both their family and their community.

Thank you, Mr. Edwin for your unwavering commitment and faithful service. You're a true blessing to our ministry!

Why I Give

"I was referred to the ministry and contacted them to schedule a visit, during which I met with Ashley Martin and Mandy Johnson. Both were extremely passionate about the mission and took time to give me a tour of the facility. The ministry provides clothing and essential items to children in foster care, and the shopping area for children and foster parents was especially impactful. It was thoughtfully set up like a boutique—clean, organized, and welcoming—allowing children to choose items with dignity and a sense of normalcy.

Our foundation chose to support this ministry because of the genuine care shown to the children they serve and the intentional way they meet both practical and emotional needs. We believe others should consider donating as well, as this ministry is making a meaningful difference in the lives of foster children by providing not just necessities, but compassion, respect, and hope."
