As we enter the summer months, I want to thank you, the residents, families, and business owners who continue to make Port Wentworth such a remarkable and resilient community. It’s been an exciting few months, and I’m proud to share a few ways our city continues to grow, invest, and thrive.
We continue to see record-breaking interest in Port Wentworth from new businesses, developers, and industries. We have seen a substantial uptick in both business license applications and housing permits, etc.—a testament to the fact that more and more families are choosing to make our city home. Anchor Park, our regional destination for recreation and entertainment, is progressing rapidly, with early groundwork visible to the public and significant momentum behind projects like the Savannah Ghost Pirates Ice Cove.
Our Highway 21 Corridor improvements are underway, bringing safer streets, updated infrastructure, and curb appeal that attracts high-quality investment. We're not just preparing for growth but guiding it thoughtfully and intentionally.
Due to the ongoing construction at City Hall and Anchor Park, Front Porch Fridays have paused for 2025, but we have exciting news!
We are excited to announce our partnership with Live Like Locals, with "Food Truck Friday" to bring joy, food, music, and connection to thousands of residents. Beginning May 30, in front of City Hall, bring your family and friends to experience savory food, great entertainment, and a fun-filled, relaxing way to kick off the weekend. These events will take place every other Friday until August 22nd!
I also want to commend the launch of our “Thrive 109” economic development video series — a fresh and transparent way for residents to learn more about our growth and opportunities.
I'm also proud to report that Port Wentworth, thanks to the work of our City Assistant City Manager and CFO, Tom Kilmartin, and his team, has completed its third consecutive clean audit, underscoring our dedication to sound financial management. We continue to make smart investments in infrastructure, safety, and quality-of-life amenities, while keeping taxes stable and delivering high-impact results. As we continue to prepare the FY2026 budget for adoption, this is critical in establishing priorities for the upcoming year.
As your City Manager, I want you to know that we are listening, planning, and building a future we can all be proud of. Whether you’ve lived here for generations or just arrived, you are part of the Port Wentworth story, and we are grateful you have chosen us to call home.
Thank you for your continued trust, engagement, and support. Please don’t hesitate to reach out, attend a council meeting, or let me, your Council Members, or staff know how we can best serve you.
In Service,
Steve Davis
