You’re exhausted, overworked, and still giving 110%—how are you supposed to find time to leave?

If your job is draining the life out of you, but you care too much to slack off, this is for you.
You’re not lazy. You’re not crazy. And no, you’re not asking for too much.
Here’s how to take your time and energy back, before burnout takes you out.

Hey friend,

You want out of your toxic, soul-killing job. It’s draining you dry. The demands are endless.
And the hardest part? You still care. You want to do good work. You pride yourself on giving 110%.

So how the heck are you supposed to find time to job search, network, and prepare for interviews?

You’re already maxed out.

You’re not alone. I hear this all the time.

And here’s the truth: If you’re operating in your usual all-in, high-achiever mode... it is impossible.

🚨 Something has to change.

To carve out time and energy for your next career move, we have to address the real root issue:

👉 Thought errors.

These are like software glitches in your brain, unhelpful assumptions that quietly sabotage your progress.

Let’s look at a big one:

Thought Error:

"My boss/team/company should be considerate, reasonable and act in my best interest."

Reality check?

Most workplaces are pressure cookers by default.
They will take everything you give and still want more.

Not because your boss is evil, but because that’s how systems behave.

So, if you’re waiting for someone else to notice you’re at your limit and hand you time and space… you’ll be waiting forever.

🔥 You have to take radical responsibility for your career, even if it ruffles feathers.

Your job is not your career. Your job is just one chapter.

Don’t let it derail the rest of the story.

3 Smart Strategies to Take Your Time Back:

1. Book “doctor’s appointments.”
Use your PTO, yes, even when it’s inconvenient or makes someone mad. You are not a machine.
Time off to rest, network, or interview is how you keep playing the long game.

2. Double-dip your networking.
Start connecting with others in your industry under the umbrella of “professional development.”
Conferences, workshops, even informational chats, these benefit you and your current org.

3. Stop thinking like a good student.
Your A+ work ethic is noble, but it’s not sustainable. The workplace isn’t school.
C+ effort on non-priority tasks is what’s needed to make space for what matters.

You’re not trying to win Employee of the Year; you’re trying to reclaim your career.

👊 Bottom Line:

If you want out, you can’t keep doing things the same way.
You have to shift your mindset, make time on purpose, and stop waiting for someone else to fix it for you.

This is one of my all-time favorite clips from Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love, Big Magic, and All the Way to the River. It’s well worth the 9-minute listen!
