Terrible job market or ripe with opportunity??

Hey friend!

Your ability to perform at your optimal level, firing on all cylinders, requires the right balance between 2 key factors.

Take a listen to this 2-minute video clip where I talk about what these 2 factors are and the zone you want to stay in (and whose responsibility it is to keep you in that zone) if you want to make your highest and best contribution over the long haul, minus the burnout:

I'd love to hear your questions and thoughts!

Terrible job market or ripe with opportunity??

Depending on who you listen to, you'll hear a different interpretation.

And, in all fairness, the job market does vary greatly by industry and sector.

BUT, how you view the playing field greatly impacts your mood and the actions you take as a result.

  • If you think, “The job market is flooded, everyone is getting laid off, and no one is hiring!”, notice how this makes you feel.

(Likely discouraged, doomed to stay stuck, and without hope in the world!).

And when you feel these ways, what actions do you take?  (Probably give up and binge Netflix!).

  • BUT, if you think, “There’s opportunity everywhere; I see lots of postings on LinkedIn; I have very valuable and marketable skills,” what feelings does that create?

    (Likely, hope, energy, and initiative)

And these feelings will likely lead you to do some creative problem solving, reach out for conversations or help, and spend time researching options.  All excellent activities when you’re feeling stuck!

You need every ounce of your creativity, energy and initiative working in your favor.  You do not have the luxury of indulging in negative thoughts if you’re going to create a career and life you love.

Why?  Because you cannot create a positive from a negative.

Whether you're job searching or simply considering your next steps, it is critical that you protect your mindset!

Fear and scarcity like to creep in unannounced and leave you cowering in the corner.

This will do you no good.

So, protect your mind.  Tune out the naysayers.

Opportunity is yours to create!

And the reality of the job market?

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics data released on Friday, the US economy added 177k jobs (just down slightly from the 185k added in March) and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.2%.  Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer told reporters: “Everything in this jobs report was positive.” Despite concerns about a recession, she said, “We see no reason that a recession is anywhere near.”

And separate from any job boards, remember opportunities always come out of relationships.  You are not at the mercy of the job market to start reaching out to people, networking, joining groups associated with your industry, attending events and making some noise!

Here's to your most exciting opportunity!

So, I’m choosing to look for signs of possibility, reach out to someone new, and trust that even one small step can open up something big. Oh, and I’m definitely staying in my optimal zone by making sure I’m not just running full throttle—I’m pacing myself, too.
