Here’s the truth:
I felt shame and embarrassment.
With a sprinkle of guilt and fear thrown in for good measure.
I had lost at a game I didn’t even know I was playing.
While friends went on to land well-paying jobs after college (it seemed like “everyone but me,” although I’m sure this wasn’t the case…), I was floundering to connect all the academic achievements, rich extracurricular experiences, and my love of almost every class I had taken in college into a meaningful job.
I had no idea what I was doing.
As a first-generation college student, guides along the path were few and far between.
