World Continence Week, observed June 15-21, is dedicated to raising awareness about bladder health and helping women know that urinary incontinence is common, treatable, and nothing to be embarrassed about. Millions of women experience symptoms like leaking when coughing or sneezing, frequent urges to urinate, or difficulty fully controlling their bladder. These issues can impact confidence, exercise, sleep, intimacy, and overall quality of life, but many women suffer in silence because they assume it’s simply part of aging or childbirth. The good news? Effective, non-surgical treatment options are available. At Deborah Wilson, MD & Associates, we offer advanced treatments designed to strengthen the pelvic floor, improve bladder control, and help women regain confidence: • Emsella uses high-intensity electromagnetic energy to stimulate thousands of pelvic floor contractions in a single session, helping restore muscle strength and bladder control. • VTone delivers gentle electrical muscle stimulation to retrain and strengthen weakened pelvic floor muscles. • Morpheus8V combines radiofrequency and microneedling technology to improve vaginal tissue health, support pelvic floor function, and address symptoms related to urinary incontinence and vaginal laxity.

How do sleep, nutrition, exercise, gut health, and weight changes affect hormones and menstrual health? Hormone balance is closely connected to everyday lifestyle factors, including sleep, nutrition, movement, gut health, and body composition. Poor or inconsistent sleep can increase cortisol levels, which may disrupt ovulation, cycle regularity, appetite regulation, and blood sugar balance. Sleep disruption can also affect the gut microbiome, influencing inflammation, mood, and even future sleep quality. Nutrition and exercise also play important roles in managing menstrual symptoms such as bloating, cramping, fatigue, and mood changes. Balanced meals with adequate protein, fiber, and healthy fats help stabilize blood sugar and support more consistent hormone signaling. Nutrients such as magnesium and omega-3 fatty acids may also help reduce inflammation and muscle tension. Moderate exercise can improve circulation, mood, and hormone metabolism, while excessive exercise or under-fueling may negatively affect cycle regularity. Gut health is deeply tied to women’s health because gut bacteria help regulate estrogen metabolism, immune function, inflammation, and even serotonin production, which affects mood and sleep. Factors such as chronic stress, antibiotics, processed foods, alcohol, low fiber intake, and artificial sweeteners can disrupt the microbiome and potentially contribute to PMS symptoms, heavier bleeding, or hormonal imbalance. Weight changes can also impact reproductive hormones. Significant weight loss or inadequate calorie intake may signal the body to conserve energy, sometimes leading to irregular or absent cycles. Weight gain associated with insulin resistance can also interfere with ovulation and estrogen balance. Overall, the goal is not simply a number on the scale, but creating a well-nourished, stable internal environment where hormones, metabolism, and gut health can function together effectively.
