Here is a real-life personal example of what worked amazingly well in the past month. Actually, the past two weeks. Looking back over recent history, a range of industries and professions has been represented by people interested in creating tips products. No one industry or profession seemed an obvious “vertical.” What did jump out was the function they reflected.

The array included speakers, authors, consultants, coaches, and generally subject matter experts. That array came out each time… until… the ONLY category mentioned for a week’s worth of networking in various networking groups and podcast presentations was “book authors.”

Many of our clients wrote one or more books, or were about to write a first book when coming to us. One shift of mentioning only book authors attracted 1:1 connections with 15 people in one week. The 15 were prospective clients, referral partners, and media invitations. That came from a 30-60 second introduction, delivered at a pace people could hear and absorb, using less words describing “ideal client,” and landing a short outcome statement replacing a shopping list of what clients receive from working with us. That statement is “the client increases their impact and their income.”
