The first step toward discarding a scarcity mentality
involves giving thanks for everything that you have.
~ Wayne Dyer
Your Reaction, Your Outlook
How did you feel when seeing the above title and quote below it? Jolting, offputting, compelling, confirming your own perspective, or something else? Do you typically struggle to feel abundant, always wanting more than what you’ve got, feeling stuck, or wondering what the magic formula is to living an abundant life?
Defending the Shortcomings
But, but, but…
”It’s ALWAYS been this way,”
"Your parents gave you the scarcity mindset,”
“The economy is struggling,”
“I don’t know how/don’t like to market,”
and other ways to keep yourself in the “victim” role.
Small, Powerful Steps Up
Notice subtleties other people use in conversation. “I’m happy to offer you a professional courtesy on that investment” sets a different tone than “There’s a 60% discount when you buy this program today before the price goes up.” Which seems more abundant to you?
How about “That’s something I’m not interested in spending money on right now” compared to “I’m broke/I can’t afford…”
Each example basically says the same thing yet one in each pair is scarcity minded. The other comes from an abundant mindset. Professional courtesy elevates the transaction and the potential client. Not interested in spending money on that right now gently announces a higher level of thinking minus self-pity or victim.
Imagine the Difference
Imagining the difference is a great starting point. Noticing the difference in the outcome when reframing your language to reflect a different perspective is a great result changer, most definitely reflecting what YOU make it...Test out the focus shift using abundant language and see what happens. It’s the “magic” you hoped for, and YOU did it.
