I've watched this industry wear burnout like a badge of honor. We talk about the grind, the hustle, the being "always on," like exhaustion is proof we care enough. I believed that too, for a while. But burnout was never proof I was doing too much. It was proof I'd drifted from myself — from the joy-filled enthusiastic wife, mom, and leader I actually am, into a performance I thought I owed everyone. That's not commitment. That's misalignment. And it deserves to be treated like a red flag, not a résumé line.
Nobody rescued me from that season in one conversation. There wasn't a single day everything changed. What actually shifted me was slower and less dramatic than that: Reading, praying, journaling, and without editing myself. And talking — really talking — with a handful of trusted friends who also owned home inspection companies and understood exactly what that pressure looked like from the inside, because they were carrying versions of it too. None of it alone would have shifted me back into alignment. Together, it compounded. Quietly, consistently, until the version of me that was so incredibly uncomfortable and out of alignment was replaced by the genuine outgoing joy-filled strong and plucky Jaymie I was created to be!
I certainly don't have it all figured out, and I know I'm not the only one who's ever smiled through a season while quietly coming undone behind it.
So if you're in your version of 2022 right now — successful on paper, peaceful in pieces, and still somehow disappearing — hear this: You can do hard things. You can learn new things and break through ceilings you never knew you could! The right hard things feel amazing! Though if you find yourself on a path that gives you a negative anxious twist in your gut feeling of burnout it is not the badge you think it is. It's a signal that you are in misalignment, and you will not recognize yourself until it's corrected. You don't need one dramatic turning point. You need people who'll tell you the truth, a little more honesty with yourself than feels comfortable, and enough consistency to let it compound.
I am no longer hiding at the height of anything. I'm just here — all of me, confidently intending to light up every room I walk into, growing my businesses and my family. Because why not?
