STUDY HALL

Structured evening Study Hall from 7:15-8:45 PM each Monday through Thursday evening is going very well. The boys each receive an email from the Dean, usually on Sunday evening, informing them that they have been assigned to Study Hall due to one or more missing assignments and/or one or more grades below a "C." College and peer tutors are available to support cadets who would like individual assistance. Once a cadet proves he has completed all missing work and turned that work into his teacher(s), he is released from Study Hall for the remainder of the week.

The number of boys with grades below C is extremely low, and at present, there are zero cadets with a GPA below a 2.0. If you have a day cadet and he receives a Study Hall email from the Dean, he should still be here at evening Study Hall. At this point, we are not making this mandatory, but beginning NEXT WEEK (October 20), any day cadet with missing assignments will be required to REMAIN ON CAMPUS each day until he completes all of his missing assignments. Day cadets and their parents will receive an email on Sunday afternoon or evening informing them of this requirement. This can be easily avoided by the cadet ensuring he completes all of his assignments on time.

TUTORIAL

Many math, English, science, and languages other than English teachers are available now for tutorials after school. Some teachers will require tutorial, while others will have it be entirely optional. Boys who are struggling with class material are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to receive individualized attention. Each teacher participating in this tutorial program is publishing his/her own schedule for the boys and families. If anyone has questions about the tutorial, they should reach out directly to the teacher.

REMINDER ABOUT SEMESTER EXAMS

Being absent from a semester exam for any reason other than a valid medical excuse or other exigent circumstance means a cadet does not earn credit for the exam. No makeup exams are permitted. Please be sure you do not schedule vacations or other conflicting events during final exam time. Exams for the fall semester are Tuesday through Friday, December 16-19, 2025.

ABSENCES

If a cadet is absent, he is only permitted to make up missed work and assessments if the absence is excused. The only allowable excused absences are being ill, medically necessary appointments, and exigent family circumstances (such as a death in the immediate family or the serious illness of a family member). Parents should email attendance@armyandnavyacademy.org in advance to notify us of the absence. Only emails from the parent email on file with us in AERIES will be accepted.

AERIES NOTICES

Every parent receives a weekly Progress Report during weeks 2-6 of each Grading Period, informing them of their son's progress. That report includes lots of valuable information:

  • current grade in each course

  • teacher contact information

  • number of missing assignments

  • most recent grades on work entered by each teacher from the previous week

  • upcoming assignments

We send this out to help keep parents abreast of their sons' academic progress. If you have questions about a grade in a particular course, please reach out directly to the teacher listed.

In addition, we send daily notices and phone calls to everyone whose son is tardy or absent one or more class periods. If the tardy or absence is excused, you should NOT receive a notice. If you get a notice, it means we are not tracking this/these being excused. Please reach out to attendance@armyandnavyacademy.org if you believe there is an error.

More likely than not, it is due to your son being late to class or us not receiving advance notice of a planned absence. In some cases, it is because a boy has cut class. When this happens, we make every effort to track him down, and he receives a 5-point demerit.
