A NOTE FROM MISS KATE:

We had LOTS of LDC alum visit over the past week or so and it brings me so much joy to have them come back to visit (one came from as far as London!) and we had 2 that jumped in to sub as well.

I am so proud of these dancers and love that they still call this their "dance home" long after they graduate high school.

It's so important for kids (and all of us really) to have what sociologists call a "third place". Home (first) and school/work (second) are equally as important, but the "third place" is where you go outside of home, school and work to converse and connect with your community.

We love seeing the lasting relationships that are formed inside our studio walls, between dancers, parents, teachers and anyone that comes to LDC. It's an honor to be 3rd!!!

Student Choreography!

If you have been in this week and peeked into class you may be wondering "what are they doing?" This week and next week dancers, even the little 2 year olds, will have the opportunity to create their own dance!

I'm sure MANY students do this at home already (and you've sat through many a "watch my dance" performances in your living room). What's great about it is what they learn during this process:

How to come up with ideas

Work as a team with a group of their peers

How to teach their teammates the moves they created

How to build a dance, make formations and use different levels

And SO much more...it's such a valuable exercise and one of our favorites!

Dancers will be doing student choreography this week and next. They will get a chance to show their classmates and potentially another buddy class too. No formal "show week" for the parents, but we encourage you to peek through the window if you're in and admire the creative process and products!

** We need your help! **

We know it's cold and the kiddos are going StIR cRAzY being stuck inside, but we have had quite a lot of running around in the lobby and making quite the mess in the playroom, lobby and other common areas.

* PLEASE make sure your kiddos are being respectful of our dance space *

~ Clean up any messes

~ Keep food OUT of the playroom

~ NO running in the lobby halls

REMINDERS &

DID YOU KNOW?

Girls' locker room!

We would LOVE if the dancers would use the spacious girls' locker room for their dance bags, coats and shoes. There are 50 cubbies, lots of coat hooks and plenty of room to store all of your things while you are in class.

This will help us keep our lobby floors clear of clutter which not only looks better but will be safer too. Nobody likes to trip on a shoe left on the floor!!

And please do NOT put your dance bags and shoes/coats on the work counter by the front desk. That area needs to remain clear for adults to use to work at (or kiddos to do homework at).
