We have some really exciting news to share! Adoption Mosaic has officially received our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status! We want to begin by thanking the Women's Foundation of Oregon for their partnership over the past year as our fiscal sponsor. Their support gave us the foundation we needed to continue growing while we worked toward becoming an independent nonprofit, and we deeply appreciate their guidance, encouragement, and belief in our work.

The timing of this milestone feels especially meaningful because just a few weeks ago, our board and team gathered in Portland, OR for our first retreat together as a nonprofit! For some of us, it was the first time meeting in person after years of working together virtually! We reflected, planned, laughed, ate together, and spent time imagining what comes next for Adoption Mosaic. We even squeezed in a team photo shoot, so you’ll be seeing some new faces and photos soon. Sneak peek below!

Looking back on the last few weeks, I’m reminded that growth happens through relationships, community, collaboration, and the many people who continue to bring their time, care, expertise, and trust to this work.

And as we look ahead, it’s already time to start thinking about our September programs. Registration is open for our upcoming Transracial Parenting Conscious Adoption Course, as it is never too early for adoptive parents to deepen their understanding of transracial adoption. At Adoption Mosaic we believe no adoptee, at any age, should have to carry the responsibility of educating their parents about what it means to grow up transracially adopted.

"Adoption Mosaic's Transracial Parenting course really exceeded my expectations, and I am so happy I did it. This is the exact resource I was looking for but couldn't find when I was starting my adoption journey, and I would highly recommend that anyone starting the process of adoption take this class!" ~ Jessica Worthington

Thank you for continuing to be alongside us. I’m excited about where we’re headed, the conversations we’re continuing to have, and all that is still possible. P.S. keep an eye out for a press release in the next two weeks about our new program for professionals and an announcement of a new grant!

As always, don’t forget to check out other adoptee creators and leaders doing GREAT things!!

We the Experts is back! Join us September 12th from 10am-12pm Pacific Time for "The Constellation: Doing the Work", where we will bring together different members of the adoption constellation to explore what it means to engage deeply with adoption awareness, advocacy, and change.

Rarely do we see spaces where multiple members of the adoption constellation come together and model what it looks like to lean into adoption’s complexities beyond the dominant social narrative of the “happy adoption” story. Through an adoptee-centered lens, panelists will share how they navigate difficult truths, challenge assumptions, and work toward more ethical, informed, and compassionate practices.

“The Constellation: Doing the Work” invites us to move beyond isolated roles and toward collective responsibility, asking what becomes possible when we come together to question old narratives, expand understanding, and build something more truthful in their place.

"lifting the burden"

Every adoptee deserves parents who are willing to engage in hard conversations about race, especially when their experiences differ from their child's. This course is an opportunity for parents to learn, unlearn, and begin building awareness of their own racial identity. Attending this course is a step toward lifting the burden many transracial and interracial adoptees carry within their adoptive families.

Transracial Parenting, an 8-week course designed to offer adoptive parents a supportive, compassionate space to deepen their understanding of race and racism.

  • The history of race and adoption in the U.S.

  • How to talk about race and racism in age-appropriate ways

  • The identity struggles many transracial adoptees face

  • How race and racism show up in your family and community

Our team of experienced facilitators—all transracial adoptees themselves—will guide these conversations with care, honesty, and lived expertise.

Begins September 15, 2026; registration is open!

Graphic with faded Adoption Mosaic brand tiles as the background with a review by Mary Grace McGrath reading: “I met with Astrid to discuss the importance of adoptees leading the conversation on adoption. It was incredible to meet with someone whose passions align with my own. I am designing a study for school to give voice to the experiences of adoptees, and Astrid provided a variety of resources to help me achieve my goal. I also learned of adoptee initiatives run by Adoption Mosaic, so I am excited to continue exploring my identity as an adoptee in these ways. Thank you!! I highly recommend Adoption Mosaic!!”

We want to hear from YOU, our community. We invite you to leave a Google Review. Reviews help those in the adoption constellation find and connect with Adoption Mosaic.
