A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us in Portland, OR on November 1st for an evening of reflection, dialogue, and connection. Dr. Kit Myers shared powerful excerpts from The Violence of Love: Race, Family, and Adoption in the United States, followed by our thoughtful conversation and an engaging community Q&A.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who came to listen, ask meaningful questions, and contribute to this important adoptee-centered discussion. Events like this remind me how vital it is to hold space for adoptee voices, not only during November, but throughout the year. What an incredible way to begin National Adoptee Awareness Month.
While November is often known as National Adoption Awareness Month, along with many others, I refer to it as National Adoptee Awareness Month. It may feel like a small shift in words, but it is a powerful shift in perspective. Awareness shouldn’t mean celebrating a system, it should mean listening to the people most impacted by it, adoptees.
This month also marks an exciting milestone for us: Adoption Mosaic is now a nonprofit!
Join me for our Virtual Nonprofit Launch Celebration on November 13th to learn what’s next for our programs, meet the team (board, consultants, trainers, administrative staff), and hear about the three-year growth plan for the future of adoptee-centered education and community. Bring a friend or two, the more the merrier!
A heartfelt thank you to the Women’s Foundation of Oregon for making this next chapter possible, and to all of you for continuing to walk beside us. Together, we’re building a future where adoptee voices are centered, heard, and valued, every day of the year.
In community,
