August 2025 -

July was full of connection, community, and the kind of moments that remind me why Adoption Mosaic exists.

With so many people in Portland for the BIPOC Adoptee Voices Conference, we took the opportunity to host our 2nd Better Together in person gathering. In addition, we partnered with AireRoots and The Ties Program, to co-host two adoptee networking events during the conference, Friday night’s happy hour and Saturday’s dessert social. Both were filled with conversation, laughter, and new connections. I’m so grateful to the conference organizers for creating such a powerful space to bring our community together. Enjoy some pictures from these events and gatherings below!

Right after that, I headed to Bend, OR, for PACT Adoptive Family Camp. I presented two workshops, The Long Game (on adoptee identity) and Transracial/Interracial Parenting. Spending that week with adoptees, adoptive parents, and professionals reminded me just how important it is to also have these conversations in person, where we can really see and hear each other.

These back-to-back experiences left me energized and deeply thankful, for the people who show up, for the spaces that center adoptee voices, and for the work we get to do every day. At Adoption Mosaic, supporting and educating is not just part of our mission, it’s who we are. And it’s only possible because of our team and the community that surrounds us.

Here’s to carrying that energy into the rest of the summer. Check out below ~ Backyard Book Reading of ‘The Violence of Love: Race, Family, and Adoption in the United States’ by Kit Meyers. Bring your questions, your reflections, and a blanket. This is more than a reading, it’s a space to be in community, to listen deeply, and to be part of the conversation.

We are so excited to resume We the Experts next month! September's We the Experts features adult adoptees who will share their experiences with disordered eating. This panel will explore how adoption—particularly the trauma of loss—can shape one’s relationship with the body. For some, disordered eating becomes a way to cope with trauma, silence, or disconnection. Join us as we hold space for grief, healing, and the ongoing process of making sense of one's self in a world where biology, history, and identity are often fragmented or erased.

a step toward lifting the burden

Every adoptee deserves parents who are willing to engage in hard conversations about race, especially when their experiences differ from their child's. This course is an opportunity for parents to learn, unlearn, and begin building awareness of their own racial identity. Attending this course is a step toward lifting the burden many transracial and interracial adoptees carry within their adoptive families.

Transracial Parenting—an 8-week course designed to offer adoptive parents a supportive, compassionate space to deepen their understanding of race and racism.

  • The history of race and adoption in the U.S.

  • How to talk about race and racism

  • The identity struggles many transracial adoptees face

  • How race and racism show up in your family and community

Our team of experienced facilitators—all transracial adoptees themselves, including Astrid—will guide these conversations with care, honesty, and lived expertise.

Transracial Parenting 2025 begins September 16—registration is now open!
