July was full of connection, community, and the kind of moments that remind me why Adoption Mosaic exists.
With so many people in Portland for the BIPOC Adoptee Voices Conference, we took the opportunity to host our 2nd Better Together in person gathering. In addition, we partnered with AireRoots and The Ties Program, to co-host two adoptee networking events during the conference, Friday night’s happy hour and Saturday’s dessert social. Both were filled with conversation, laughter, and new connections. I’m so grateful to the conference organizers for creating such a powerful space to bring our community together. Enjoy some pictures from these events and gatherings below!
Right after that, I headed to Bend, OR, for PACT Adoptive Family Camp. I presented two workshops, The Long Game (on adoptee identity) and Transracial/Interracial Parenting. Spending that week with adoptees, adoptive parents, and professionals reminded me just how important it is to also have these conversations in person, where we can really see and hear each other.
These back-to-back experiences left me energized and deeply thankful, for the people who show up, for the spaces that center adoptee voices, and for the work we get to do every day. At Adoption Mosaic, supporting and educating is not just part of our mission, it’s who we are. And it’s only possible because of our team and the community that surrounds us.
Here’s to carrying that energy into the rest of the summer. Check out below ~ Backyard Book Reading of ‘The Violence of Love: Race, Family, and Adoption in the United States’ by Kit Meyers. Bring your questions, your reflections, and a blanket. This is more than a reading, it’s a space to be in community, to listen deeply, and to be part of the conversation.
