A huge thank you to the Weisman family for their generosity in opening their home to us. This retreat was exactly what we needed—a chance to recharge, strategize about our three-year growth plan, and reconnect after a year of transitions. Stay tuned for more updates about the strategic plan in the coming months!
One of the highlights of the weekend was a session led by our incredible consultant and trainer, Jennifer Poole. She guided us through the Enneagram exercise that gave us deeper insights into ourselves and each other—let’s just say, learning what it means to be the Enneagram 8 was eye-opening (if you know, you know!). Understanding both the light and shadow sides of our personalities will only make us a stronger, more intentional team as we take on some exciting growth ahead. I left the retreat feeling inspired and ready for what’s next!
I also want to take a moment to announce our upcoming We the Experts Adoptee Speaker Series, Adoptees with Physical Disabilities, on April 12. We formerly titled this event “Adoptees & Physical Disabilities”. A special shoutout to two of our panelists, Carlos and M.C., whose insights have been invaluable. Carlos recently shared a powerful reflection on the importance of person-first language and how disability intersects with every part of adoptee life. With his help, we realized that using the word “with” in the event title communicates this intersectional identity much more clearly than “&”. His words were a reminder of what we strive to do at Adoption Mosaic—listen, learn, grow, and adapt based on the lived experiences of our community. That’s exactly why we’re renaming this panel, a direct reflection of our commitment to being open to feedback from our community and incorporating it into how we do things. This entire experience reinforced something I try to carry with me always—to keep an open mind and continue growing by listening to those in our community.
Looking forward to what’s ahead!
