September 2024

As we step into September, the changing season brings both reflection and anticipation for what lies ahead. Fall is often a time for new beginnings, and I’m excited to share some truly significant updates and upcoming events with you.

First and foremost, I am thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership between Adoption Mosaic and the Oregon Department of Human Services - Child Welfare. We will now be able to offer our  programs and services to Oregon-designated pre-adoptive placements, post-adoptive families, and post-guardianship families. This is a tremendous opportunity for us to expand our services and programs to a wider audience and we are honored to provide these resources to more of our community. Eligible families can fill out this application to get started!

This summer has been a time of connection and growth. Whether you joined us at KAAN, the BIPOC Adoptees Conference, or participated at an adoptive family camp in Maryland or Oregon, please know that your participation has been instrumental in strengthening the bonds within our community. These gatherings remind us of the importance of creating spaces where adoptees, parents, and allies can come together to share experiences, learn, and support one another.

As we transition back into our regular programming, I am delighted to announce the return of our monthly online panel, We the Experts, with Adoptees Raised with 5+ Adoptees and the start of our annual Conscious Adoption: Transracial Parenting virtual course. Our We the Experts panel discussions have always been a cornerstone of our community, providing a platform for diverse voices and perspectives. I encourage you to consider an annual subscription to our panel series (a value of $500!).

Finally, while change can be exciting for some, please remember it may trigger anxiety for others. This September, as the seasons change, I encourage you to take this opportunity to remember that for many of us adoptees change can be challenging. Whether you're an adoptee, a parent, or an ally, please don't hesitate to reach out for extra support if you need it.

Here’s to a fall filled with reflection, connection, and exciting new beginnings.

The Blindside (2009), Blue Bayou (2021) and Joy Ride (2023) didn’t have a single adoptee involved in the creation of their films. Unfortunately this demonstrates a larger trend amongst the entertainment industry.

The Adoptee Film Fest aims to establish the need for adoptee centered adoption narratives by adoptees in film, media and entertainment.
