VIVA LA FRANCE...

I love France, and I love the French. I have been fortunate enough to travel there on many occasions,  and one of my best friends is French, and her son Jules is my godson. All of that is to say...Bastille Day was a drag! What a horrible day to lose your World Cup semi-final game! It was heartbreaking! I don't dislike Spain. Empanadas are always a delicious treat...But let's be honest--they are no fries! Certainly no croissant! And all of the napping?!?!?! Come on, Spain! Wake up and get to it. You know who's awake and working hard??? The French! 35 hours a week and dedicated labor. Sounds like an ideal plan to me. Wouldn't mind seeing that number drop to 24 if I'm being honest... Throw in a few good labor strikes at random yet essential parts of the year, and that is a society I can completely get behind.

My goal is to work as little as possible so I can write as many newsletters as possible. So far, aces.

Let's celebrate some French stuff this week in their honor.

Here is some stuff I like and hope you like too...

AS ALWAYS, REPLY TO THIS EMAIL WITH YOUR THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS AND STUFF YOU WANT TO SEE! I FEEDBACK IS ALWAYS APPRECIATED!

GREAT MOMENTS IN FRANCE

I think one of the reasons I love the French so much is that they are always really close to being awesome without ever really being awesome. There has been a long history of just...stuff that went wrong...

Bastille Day

What an unconventional way to start a revolution...let's go down to the county lockup and let everyone out. That will show them! No thanks! I'm good. That would be like ransacking Leavenworth looking for political leaders. Slim pickens...

World War II

Just all of it. I could write more. No need.

Joan of Arc

I am glad that we have finally reached an era where we all acknowledge that people make the worst logs. If you are trying to start a fire, use kerosene and wood, not the wacky neighbor from down the road.

Gerard Depardieu

Sex symbol??? Are you drunk??? Not even in the backwoods of Missouri. Only in France can this man be considered a heartthrob. What's that? He has been charged with sexual assault??? Surely you jest. Sacre bleu. Never saw it coming from 1000 miles away.

St. Crispin's Day Speech

There are few things worse than losing to the English at anything because they never let you forget it. Not only did the French lose the Battle of Agincourt, stupid Shakespeare also wrote the annoying St. Crispin's Day speech every drama kid had to memorize and regurgitate as if they were bringing a new zeal and insight to the words. That is just constant salt in the wound.

MY SPOTIFY PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK...

CO2ISFUNNY | Songs For Short People Like Me to Enjoy...

I think I am California Tall. In any other state in the universe, I would be average height at best, short at worst. In California--land of the Cruises and Dustin Hoffmans. I feel like Napolean at 7-11 grabbing a Monster Zero and getting the day rolling. The only croissant there is a Hot Pocket. Hmmmm...

Enjoy the sounds of me trying to be the BMOC here...

Short People | Randy Newman

One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces | Ben Folds Five

Terrier | Ida Laurberg

Short King | Jonathon Timpanelli

Big Tall Man | Liz Phair

Napolean | Bear's Den

THE SHOW I AM WATCHING

I wrestled with putting this movie on here because it is not available for streaming anywhere. There is some issue with the rights, and this movie is almost impossible to find now. Which is a horrible tragedy, because this movie is hilarious!

Both Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline are at their absolute rom-com best playing the uptight Kate, who grudgingly falls for thief Luc who is trying to get enough money to open a vineyard. Jean Reno (a personal favorite of mine) shines, and Timothy Hutton turned in a good performance as Kate's cheating fiancé.

If you ever stumble upon the DVD, buy it, a player and watch it. It will be worth it!

SUSAN WARE CLIP OF THE WEEK

Anyone up for a game of lawn tennis? Susan and I hit the courts with Flapper bad girl Louise Brooks, where we drink bathtub gin martinis and cheers to crushing the little people...until we realize we are still the little people. But it did remind me how much I love to play tennis in a sweater and long pants in the blistering Burbank heat. Anyways, check out Susan by clicking HERE.

I hope you enjoy these as well! Feel free to subscribe if you want. I will also include them here, but the posts that come from her site are hilarious and go out on Mondays and Thursdays!
