Soccer Part Deux... Electric Messi-loo

This week's soccer pic is a bit more accurate than last week's. Despite my visions in my head about tree trunk thighs and sculpted calves, etc, I have to admit I am probably closer to Fisher-Price Messi than Bending Anything like Beckham. I almost went a different direction than more soccer, but after being in KC all week and seeing how crazy this town has become for the World Cup, especially being here on Tuesday night for Messi's 3 goals, I thought let's revisit FIFA. It was pretty insane and pretty cool. I don't care if they are playing cornhole-- it's pretty awesome to see the best of the best at anything they do have their greatest moments...and even cooler that it was in KC!

This pic is from the KC Plaza on Monday night when he hadn't even done anything yet! People as far as you could see all wrapped in the light blue and white banging drums, singing, having fun... Loved all of it!

Here is some stuff I like and hope you like too...

AS ALWAYS, REPLY TO THIS EMAIL WITH YOUR THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS AND STUFF YOU WANT TO SEE! I FEEDBACK IS ALWAYS APPRECIATED!

FATHER'S DAY

I love posting pics from back in the day when you could play an Appalachian jug band song on my washboard ab 😄😄😄... maybe have been a one note affair, but that's how I remember it...

On this Father's Day weekend, I wanted to share a thought about my dad. This pic is him and my brothers and I...no need to have my sisters in this one--they are always hogging the limelight in my little newsletter! I don't even know the year but I would guess early 2000s (2004 or 05???) based on my incredibly youthful appearance, general level of fitness, and all around good looks. Seems like it could have been yesterday! 😄😄😄

My dad like most dads was a helluva guy, my north star and a rock of a man. He didn't waver in his beliefs, yet reinvented himself when he needed to. He was so many of the things I am, and so many more of the things I am not. I'm not going to go into everything because everyone has their own dads and memories, etc. I guess that is why we have the day! But I will simply say that my dad, who passed away coming up on four years ago now later this month, was the best dad to me and he is missed every day. I couldn't let the day go without letting him know...

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

MY SPOTIFY PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK...

CO2ISFUNNY | Songs About People Who Just Get Called Father For Fun...

I know a lot more people who get called different varieties of "mother" than folks who get labeled "father"! This week's pic is what I imagine my life would be like if I was a Greek Orthodox priest in Istanbul...this was inspired (to no great surprise!) by Jess. If you follow her Instagram (@thejessicawinther) then you already know she has been addicted to Turkish television for way too long now! Just trying to do my part to keep the Turkish illusion going...😄😄😄

THE SHOW I AM WATCHING

This movie is so beautiful...it easily earns its place in the Top 100 movies of all time. The Bicycle Thief (or Bicycle Thieves) is the link that bridges pre-war classics with post-war modern audiences. It is called neorealist in style, but the real power in this film is the simple, raw emotion behind it. A father is exhilarated when he lands a vital and rare job in post-war Italy, but it all turns to disaster when the bike he needs to do the job gets stolen. The film chronicles a father and son's desperate search to find the thing that will mean their salvation or their demise.

I promise if you watch this you will be changed for the better forever. It is a powerful piece of art that evolves with me every time I watch it.

BEING IN KC

Loving this week being back in KC! The trip here was awesome-- hilarious misadventures I will include next week when I have better computer access. Suffice it to say I LOVE being back home! I have been able to see family and longtime friends, see more soccer than I ever thought I needed in my life, now I'm driving to Omaha to do a show there tomorrow night with my buddy Kristi McHugh. It has all been just a peach of a week! Difficult to do the newsletter, though, without my computer setup. So I have some new fun things planned but they will have to start next week...
