Me & the Other T-Birds Are Splitting Rydell High for Summer.

I have no idea what prompt I used to make Claude think I wanted to look like Ricky Martin channeling John Travolta in a very off-Broadway stage revival of Grease, but sometimes you go with what you got! Welcome to summer everybody! My first crush in life Sandra Dee and I will be hanging out at the school carnival like all people who hit their peak in high school do. I'm gonna need to stretch before I get back into my dance grooves...don't want to pull a hammy in the big closing number!

Here is some stuff I like and hope you like too...

AS ALWAYS, REPLY TO THIS EMAIL WITH YOUR THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS AND STUFF YOU WANT TO SEE! I FEEDBACK IS ALWAYS APPRECIATED!

SUMMER AND TEEN ANGST: I'M A BOBBY DARIN SONG AWAY FROM IMMORTALITY

I love nostalgia and summer in that order! Something about the 1950's and busting out of high school so you can go do juvenile delinquent-lite things just seems like heaven. Back when smoking was naughty yet doctor approved, and everyone died in a car wreck before they were 19 (always on Dead Man's Curve... if there was a road called Dead Man's Curve, I would just drive the other way...Give me Alive Charlie's Straightaway... you know what's better than being dead but immortal in your teens? Being alive and rich in your 70's. I'm a Viking Cruise through Norway away from reclaiming my former glory 🙂🙂🙂)

Let's raise a Hamm's Beer with an old school tear tab lid we can daisy chain into a necklace later, and cheers to those who survived Elvis' hips on Ed Sullivan without impregnating every teen from St Ignatius' School for the Wayward & Blind. What a great time to be alive I would think...

There is something magical about an era when you could swim and waterski in a leather jacket and no one thought you were an idiot. They thought you were cool.

I know this is the beginning of Jump the Shark, but I think Evel's Jump the Shark was way cooler!

MY SPOTIFY PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK...

CO2ISFUNNY | Best Songs About James Dean From Someone Who Looks Ridiculous In Leather Jackets...

THE SHOW I AM WATCHING

Giant is a weird movie. Sometimes you shouldn't get your favorite people together in one movie. The results can be underwhelming (IMHO). Academy Award nominations aside (of its 9 nominations only George Stevens won for Best Director, an honor he probably should have received for Shane but they "made up for" with Giant), the movie feels a bit overdone and never seems to click, perhaps because there was so much tension on the filming sets, that no one could have been having fun and it shows.

There is nothing about it that is bad. Just nothing seems to work either. Rock Hudson and James Dean famously hated each other (a clash between "method actors" and "actors" that continues to this day, right Brian Cox & Jeremy Strong on Succession???), and Elizabeth Taylor seems oddly caught in the middle both as a person and actor in this conflict.

I highly encourage watching just to see if you agree. It is a classic of American cinema and should be watched...just with a particular lens. Let me know what you think!

LAKES

It is weird living near the ocean but preferring lakes. Don't get me wrong-- I love to sit on the beach. But in terms of actually jumping in the water and having a good time, nothing beats a midwestern lake. Pontoon boats rule the waters with Jell-o shots and watermelon bombs thrown in. Are they disgusting? Absolutely. Do you stand an 83+% chance of getting ecoli? You sure do. The odds are high your feet are splashing just above the bodies of dead workers who drowned in 1931 making this public works project fun for everyone. Thank you FDR and WPA. Without you artificially propping our our economy 90 years ago while Tom Joad made his way with his grapes out to sunny California, the midwest would be a lot less fun for 12 weeks out of every year.

COMEDIAN TO KNOW: Kelsi Collins

I just had a great time in Santa Barbara with Kelsi Colins as we kicked off the inaugural Human Resource Rebels show in Santa Barbara. Each week, I try to bring you guys comedians I absolutely love and admire-- typically they are brilliant writers and have a unique POV on very relatable things. That is Kelsi in a nutshell. She just sees the world differently, and is able and willing to poke fun at herself in exploring topics.

When I tell you she is an up-and-comer you will be hearing more about, believe me! She is the real deal. Click HERE to watch a clip of her in action!
